Latest signal figures using laptop and USB lead. Puzzling that COM 6 strengths could have a min figure of 1 on both tuners, but the average be 98.
Even though I can connect to TM using the usb set-up, trying to re-install the MyStuff installer gets so far but then says no connection to toppy using any of the 3 methods available, which is a bit of a contradiction

Well your signature no longer has the bold or garbled characters at the start so something has changed.

Your tuner 2 quality is not very good (93 max) on COM5 although 100 on Tuner 1.
Try swapping the leads at the back of the topy to see what difference it makes (post signals again) i.e. take swap input from aerial and output to TV

Re fsCheck, I suspect you are trying to run this by clicking in TopManager. The normal way to run this is using the remote control :-
1) Display the progress bar; on a 5800 remote, this is done by pressing > (between << and >>) - no idea what it is on 5810 remote
2) Press Archive (basically step 1 and 2 are to display the native Archive)
3) << to show ProgramFiles
4) Scroll down to Utilities and press OK
5) Scroll down to fsCheck and press OK
Note: it can also be run by using the PcCpntrol| Tap Commander option

Regarding the FsCheck, got into native menu>prog files>utilities>FsCheck and upon pressing OK, the screen went blue for a split second with what looked like some words on it, then boom re-boot and F & F.
Tried it twice and same result

Those figures are showing better quality values although COM5 is still a bit low (I'd like to see 98+ as the average).

Re the minimum values of 1, did you measure the signals soon after startup. If so, this would mean that the number of measurements was reduced because the cpu was being used by other taps.
Thought: did you set the measure time to 10 secs or more?

You could try running the SignalMonitor tap to see if that produces similar values.

No idea why fsCheck should cause a reboot unless you are possibly running out of memory (even then it is coded to detect lack of memory)
You could try booting it up tapless (when booting, press 0 repeatedly until the picture shows) and then run fsCheck

Decide to install my stuff from my PC because I don't have a 15 mtr USB lead. All went well it said, so unplugged it and put it back in the lounge where it went blue and started to do its bit, but after a few different screens it started to un-compress the firmware, it stopped half way across the screen and reported "fault found whilst un-compressing firmware"and then it immediately kicked out back to the TV screen

Started toppy and held 0 to stop all taps in order to run FsCheck. Up comes screen stating no issues found and pressing record said "writing file to disk", but where it went I have no idea. The utilities file contains 8 files and the auto start contains 10, but all the rest have nothing in them, is this correct. Turning off the toppy to restart it once more with taps caused the F & F to run again

This is a saga.

Boot the toppy tapless again

Runs TM and use the Display| fsCheck option. Copy and paste the output into the thread I previously posted a link for.

Use the remote to run PruneEPG and then EPG2MEI (both in the "Auto Start" folder).
Wait 25 mins for EPG2MEI to recreate the EPG data.

Then try rebooting the toppy.

If the toppy starts VFFs on the reboot, boot it tapless and use TM to rename the MyStuff.tap file so it won't run on startup:-
1) Connection| Browse
2) double click Auto Start to display it's contents
3) right click on MyStuff.tap and select Rename. Change MyStuff.tap to MyStuff.pat
4) Reboot the toppy and see if comes up properly
If that doesn't work, try renaming other taps so that they won't run at startup (trying to identify which one is causing the problem). Once you have identified the offending tap, any others can be renamed back to a .tap extension.

Note: MyStuff can cause a crash if MyStuff.dat is corrupted - you might have to resort to reinstating an older version of this file.

Turned on the toppy this AM using the remote to try and post MyInfo log file, and was greeted with " F & F " which after completion was accompanied by the L & S roundels but as the S started we went into a reboot sequence again but this time after it completed, a message on the toppy display saying " No Name " and the tv screen saying :---

" Firmware was changed with a latest one Reset all data is highly recommended "

The remote allows scrolling between the 2 options of yes and no, but pressing OK on either does nothing, so un-plugged and re-plugged, only for the same message to re-appear.
I think my toppy is dying

There have been no new firmware dates for years (and never will be) so your firmware is in a funny state.

Suggest you use the remote to reset the toppy :-
Menu
Installation
Factory Setting

The above will lock you into the system menu until you do a scan
I suggest you do a manual scan on just one mux e.g. 47 (this will allow you to use the toppy again).

Then use the remote to run the FwLoad tap (in the Utilities folder)
FwLoad will reboot when the toppy when it finishes.

After the reboot, scan for your channels again as you would normally.

If you get continued problems, I suggest you contact andyfras for advice on what to do next

Sorry Geoff, but am unable to do anything with the toppy.
Whether I try a re boot by unplug and replug, or just turn it on from the remote, the sequence is the same" C457>loading>run>No Name " on toppy display and message about firmware on the tv.
I tried holding down the 0 to start tapless and I can see a flashing segment on the display to confirm its working, it is the same every time.
I reckon I might just install another old laptop hard drive and start from a reformat due to it being windows formatted and go from there as I am getting nowhere.

Flashing "emptysettings" forces a factory reset which may help.

Try while the disc is removed. If it works you can manually scan a single (good) mux to setup the box before putting in the drive.

You'll need to search the forum for details.

Installing a different disk is not going to sort it out (it hasn't accessed the disk at that point).

As you can't boot it tapless, you will have to use Antares to load a dummy firmware (EmptySettings.tfd). While you should google the site for full instructions; the basic idea is that you first set Antares up to load the tfd and then switch on the toppy. As the toppy boots, it looks on the USB for an update and gets it from Antares. The whole process takes about 2 secs. You won't be able to do anything with the toppy until you have used the remote to perform the steps in my previous post.
Note: EmptySetting does not perform a full reset i.e. you still need to do a reset using the remote.

Anything on the disk should be unaffected (assuming you don't do a "Format Hard Disk")
