Boot Problem

Post by Peter Page »

I have recently been having boot problems with my Toppy#1.

When booting after a few hours in standby, I almost always find the Toppy with no recording features, and sometimes with no control keys working at all (except shut down, which works after a few attempts). The TV function always works, booting into the last live programme watched before shutdown to standby.

After shutdown (and in case of no keys working, waiting a few minutes before tome shows on LCD display), boot up is normal, with all features working correctly.

Any advice please?

I'm not sure if this is the same, but I've had a few times recently when the Toppy is unresponsive.

Problem is, I run my YouView box through the Toppy and use the Satellite key to switch between the 2. I find that I can't do anything to get back to the Toppy from the other box, and keypresses such as changing channel or power off have no effect. I've left it for over 15 minutes before switching off at the mains for a couple of minutes. Two or three times when I have plugged it back in, all seems well after the VF&F, but then a few minutes later the screen will go black, with some green flickering lines working their way up the screen. Pressing Satellite has no effect, but I can power off. Upon restarting, all is fine.

This has only started happening since I got the YV box, but I'm not sure if the 2 are related...

Andy - Many thanks!

After reading "all" about the PSU Capacitor Replacement history and "How to Do" items in http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16065 I was conviced, so ordered the Kit of 18 Capacitors, followed the guidance and completed the task.

My Toppy is now working perfectly.

Peter

PS - The only thing I did to make the task well organised was to devise a simple 2 A4 sheet "tool" to make a sorting ?box? for new, and old Capacitors ? plus adding notes. If you want to make your own download word document from
http://cvpages.net/download/Toppy/Topfi ... ngTool.doc
... or a picture of mine at end of the task from
