Where is the programme info stored?

Post by Grand Dizzy »

I just used TopfHDRW to transfer some recordings from an old Toppy HD onto my new Toppy HD. To my surprise, when I looked at the recordings on the Toppy, they all seem to have programme information, despite the fact that I only copied the recordings and no other files.

This leaves me wondering where this programme information is located?:

1. Is it somehow embedded in the recordings files themselves?
2. Is the programme info retained somewhere on the Toppy, even long after the recordings themselves have been deleted?
3. When copying recordings with TopfHDRW, does it automatically transfer file information over from some other location?

The information is contained in the recorded header.

However, this may not directly correspond to what MyStuff knows - t usually does but will likely contain the info from the preceding programme if the recording was set using the native mechanism.

Hi Geoff and thanks for the answer! :)

By "recorded header", do you mean it's embedded in the header of the .rec file itself?

If that's the case, is it possible to see programme info for old .rec files on my PC? (Without having to put the files back on the Toppy.)

I currently have a ton of old recordings with no way to know what episode/series they are without playing them through and trying to figure it out.

This might help, but the download site is no longer available.

I'll see if I can find it.

Sorry, I can only find a copy of EMJB's taps.

That would be useful. I must have missed it when it was being discussed last year :(

It is - I converted loads of toppy recordings so that I could retain program details on ViX.

Maybe @jimi has a copy and can add it to his backup of EMJB's taps???

Thanks CCS.

I've solved my problem now: I simply drag the .rec files into Notepad2 and the programme info is clearly visible there in the first few lines! :)

Unfortunately that zip file wasn't on the website when I copied it, if anyone has a copy I'll certainly host it.

I think EMJB needs to confirm it'll be ok.

I know I'm late to the discussion but TFRecEdit is a handy Windoze add-on for viewing the recording information.

AFAIK this information is stored in the same place at the beginning of a .rec file in plain text so could easily be read programatically. {It's on my never ending list of things to do - so that I can complile a spreadsheet of files & recording details}
