All sorted, yes had to open TM twice to clear the error.

Following last weekend's change to Toppy.org.uk, TopManager is unable to change your signature using the "Tools| Update Forum Profile ..." option
This is because the forum web pages to perform this function have changed (TM can't obtain or set your forum signature)

I will need to reprogram this function to use the new web pages (which could be difficult!).

I also noticed that the trademark symbol (TM) at the end of my forum signature displayed as "â„¢".
This is obviously a conversion error from the old BB to the new one.
The good news is that the new BB does allow the use of TM in the signature - I just need to get the "update forum profile" option working properly..

Assuming you need the same script as in the old version of the forum, just change the second 'forum' in the URL to 'phpBB3' - ie a link that was forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/blah.php is now forum.toppy.org.uk/phpBB3/blah.php

Thanks Nigel but that didn't work (404 Not Found)

My old URL was
http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/profile ... ditprofile and I replaced it with
profile.php?mode=editprofile

Omitting the "?mode=editprofile" also doesn't work.

The new visible page looks totally different from the old one; are you saying that the old scripts are still accessible if I manage to get the address right ?

Code: Select all

PS Had to edit to put in a code block because the displayed URLs looked totally rubbish e.g.
http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/profile ... ditprofile" and I replaced it with
"profile.php?mode=editprofile"

This might work (or something similar) ....

Code: Select all

No, the old scripts might still be on the server, but they're no longer compatible with the latest versions of PHP. For things like viewtopics, you can usually just change that one element in the path to get the new forum's equivalent. For other stuff, it may be a fiddlier.

Any scripts at the old URLs will either fail to execute or direct you to the holiday page for the old forum

@ccs

Thanks for the link - I had already worked out that I could use something like that but it still involves trying to work out how my code works. Basically, I have to use a web browser to fetch the page, wait for it asynchronously (makes life more difficult), handle an automatic web page redirect by the site (if it still applies), work out the locations of the fields on the page, modify them, submit the update and asynchronously wait for completion.
I also used to provide a mechanism for TM to "login" to the site (I'm not sure whether that is still necessary but needs investigating)

The fields I modify all used to be on the same web page but they now appear to be on 3 different pages (I'm not sure I want to process 3 web pages in this manner - especially when 2 of them are unlikely to change).

From Nigel's post, I was hoping that the old scripts were still accessible via a different address; Just seen his post saying the old scripts won't work (I didn't think they would)

Cheers
Geoff

TopManager 7.1 Uploaded to the GeCeeBee website

* This version should allow users to use the Tools| Update Forum Profile option following the site update to phpBB3.

* It also warns the user when an update to Gramp's Logos becomes available.

Note: One of the changes in phpBB3 is that font sizes in signatures are now percentages whereas they used to be absolute values e.g. size=10 pre phpBB3 now equates to size=85.
Although the suggested signature in MyInfo Log.txt uses size=10, TM will automatically convert it to size=85 before processing the forum signatures ( I could distribute a patched version of MyInfo.tap to change the size but I don't think this is necessary as TM automatically changes it when needed)

Cheers
