Is there an idiot's guide for UK Auto Scheduler?

I've put it in my Start-Up directory and it's obviously done something as it's created a db directory but I can't access it.

Please could someone point me in the right direction?

The is a "ReadMe.txt" file in downloaded zip file.

Default Actiation is by the Recall Key (which can be changed)

Waking up this thread :-)

Since PSU problems now fixed which resulted in the hard drive being reformatted I have several problems one of which is with UKAS. I have 0.73.1 and have a couple of questions.

The first is does this version have the fix for ignoring repeats that I think was fixed in the Finnish? version? That is UKAS was adding the key to ignore future repeats *before* it knew the timer had been created. The result was when in a timer clash you never got to record the later repeat because you had recorded it already not!

The second is that in any case it does not seem to be working that well. For example this last weekend it record every single repeat of "Click" on BBC News. But looking in the EPG they all had exactly the same description - which is what I think UKAS makes an MD5 sum or similar of.

Not the answer you want but...

Suggest you make the quantum leap to MyStuff; with UKAS, I got fed up repairing the search file when channels changed and I wouldn't dream of going back to it.

I always thought that UKAS applied its searches sequentially so if there was a three way clash it would record the first two. Is that not correct? As I have had several 3 way recently where it recorded the 1st and 3rd.

It may depend on which muxes the clashes happen, whether they use the same or a different mux.

Click on TAPS in the Downloads section (normally middle left of forum search pages but you will have to scroll this page up to the top if you want to see it).
Then scroll down to "UK Auto Scheduler "

Thanks, but the download site is dead. As is the author's site.

(I should have said "a working download site")

pm me your email address and I'll send it to you.

Have you tried MyStuff? - that has active support.

Many thanks, I'll wait until my new harddisk arrives as I'm now discovering that most taps are causing my Toppy to freeze, even a fresh copy of QuickJump. So the file I have may be fine after all.

Source code and mods

Post by DB1 »

Anyone know where the current source code for UKAS lives? And is anyone still updating it?

I have been having some thoughts on the "ignore repeats" feature and the search itself.

Firstly the "exact" search is buggered with the lesser channels use of "New" in front of the title. I went through and changed all mine to partial. They also tend to put it in front of the description - sometimes. If you have ignore repeats you get it twice of course once with "new" and once without.

IIRC UKAS makes a MD5 sum of the description - may include title not sure. The MD5 sums are contained in a file named after the program title.

My thoughts are:

1) Strip leading "new " or "new: " from the title and the description before doing any checks. Use the stripped description for the MD5 sum.

2) Take the actual search string, lower case, change anything not a-z 0-9 to an underscore and use that as the file name to store the MD5 sums under. (This to allow for the special characters in advanced search which are most likely illegal in file names.)

This would solve the sudden loss of recordings when they decide to stick " new" in and you have an exact search. Storing under the search string rather than the program name will eliminate the double recording. Of course this would only be applicable to use in the UK - but this specific change could be on an ifdef when compiled. The only downside I can see is all previous stored data would be invalid. A possible work around would be to manually move the contents of the old file to the new one once the new one got created. Or UKAS could look for an old style title file name and do a merge on the fly.

Thoughts?

None of the above explains why I always get multiple copies of "Click" every weekend though!

Last person to work on it was:
"New version 0.73 contains all fixes by jpuhakka as well as new features"

The originator sl8 seems to have let his domain lapse. You could try PM'ing him.
