Not wishing to split hairs, but shouldn't PBS be PSB (Public Service Broadcast)?

Public Broadcasting Service.

A PSB would be something like "Mum's the Word" from WW2.

@Bizman

It should be PSB and not PBS; I think I mentioned this to EMJB some time ago (I only noticed because something I was looking at, probably Freeview.dat, had both variants).

Suggest you ensure you have the latest version of Freeview.dat (TM "Tools| Install Files| Freeview.dat" (assuming SignalMonitor is using it)

Got Signal Monitor 0.54 RC3 and downloaded Freeview.dat (again) and loaded to Toppy but still get PBS. Never mind, I can live with it.

RC3 is not the latest version - simply 0.54 now.

Did you take the Freeview.dat from the zip - if so it may not be the latest - use the one from here and install in /ProgramFiles/Settings/. I have done a search for "pbs" in that version, and is not found.

Right, got the latest version and have unzipped & put files in the right places. Still got PBS on the TV screen (the file says PSB) although the version has updated.. I notice in the Signal Monitor.ini file it still has the pre-September re-shuffle values for Dave/Yesterday and Gold/Really. I will play with this some more making sure I haven't got any old versions lurking around. I should be able to resolve this myself. :roll:

Edit: I noticed too the the .ini file also says PBS

@Bizman

A SignalMonitor.ini file, if it exists, should override any definitions inside the tap.

So, you need to set up a .ini file (in case you haven't yet renamed the extension), replace all 'PBS's to 'PSB's and check that that the channels it contains reflect the correct channel numbers (possibly also check the muxes?)

Geoff
Note: I have "Signal Monitor 0.54 RC1"; I'm not sure what version you have.

@Geoff, I now have the latest Signal Monitor 0.54 (without the RC3) as mentioned earlier by EMJB, but its .ini file needs updating (hint to EMJB). The Freeview.dat file is fine, if at all used.

[quote="Bizman.... but its .ini file needs updating (hint to EMJB).[/quote]

The wording in the instructions is

Code: Select all

Examples of ?Freeview.dat? and ?SignalMonitor.ini? are included in the download zip, to allow you to generate your own.
so any update will be low on my priority list.

I've just replaced my disk with a 2.5" SATA to keep it quiet and cool. All is OK except that Signal Monitor causes a crash each time it is run. I have reloaded the TAP, but it's still the same. I vaguely remember someone else had this problem, but I couldn't find the post.

It ran OK on the previous, full-size disk, so I'm wondering if it's something to do with TAP order, which is probably different on the new disk.

I seem to have answered my own question; I added a SignalMonitor.ini file and it seems to be working correctly now. According to the description, an .ini shouldn't be necessary for UK models.

Well I've been battling for the past few days with Signal Monitor crashing same as you and I hadn't changed the disk. It used to work even up to a week or two ago and it now works following your solution. It was always ok using TopManager but that requires a PC connection. This is despite TM's Program file check reporting ok.

Now all I need to do is set the view so I can read the bottom line (under Settle time) etc.

Signal monitor needs either Freeview.dat (found in here) or your own ini file.

I already had that Freeview.dat. It was adding the .ini that fixed my problem.
If it should be as you say then something else must be wrong.

And I still don't know why it used to work and then didn't.
