In the aftermath of the Freeview changes of September 1st & 3rd I have finally got the errors out of my Freeview.dat file. I didn't realise this at first because I missed the on-screen message and with no errors it appears that the FvDataErrors.dat file isn't created and why should it if there are no errors?
Well it overwrites the previous error file, but if it isn't created, it leaves a FvDataErrors.dat file still shoing the previous errors. So there's me trying to find these errors that I had already fixed until I noticed the on-screen message.
Would it be more logical to create the file with a 'No errors found' message ?

Maybe just delete the file? No errors ==> no error file. (If it were called FvDataCheck.dat (or .log) 'No errors found' would be required.) But either will do. Presumably there's an on-screen message reporting that no errors were found.

My preference is for the file to contain the 'No errors' message, at least then there is a record of the current status.
The on-screen message is there, but among a lot of other information. I didn't wait to take it all in.

Hi there,

Haven't been round here in a while but I just rescanned with an old version of Channel Organiser and I have a bit of a mess in my guide at the moment, Do I just update the TAP and download the new Freeview.dat? Or is there anything else I need to do?

Cheers

I have the same problem. Because of the BBC channel changes I did a rescan using the version of Channel Organiser that comes with MyStuff 6.5 (V1.2) and ended up with lots of duplicate channels. I think that I have deleted the duplicates, but there are problems with the guide information. How do I install the latest version of Channel Organiser (V2.1)? I thought that MyStuff 6.5 would install the latest version of related TAPS, so I tried re-installing that, but the Channel Organiser TAP is still V1.2.

Thanks

Even with Channel Organiser B2.1 the current Freeview.dat file is out of date due to the September 1st & 3rd changes.

@fhjones

As you have TopManager, just use "Tools|Install Files| ChannelOrganiser"

Alternatively,
1) Tools| Install Files| PcControl
2) reboot toppy
3a) PcControl! Show Menus
3b) PcControl| Channel Management
4) Perform Scan
5) Right Click in display and select "all Pay, porn, Shop, Social..."
6) Delete Channels
7) Select/Delete any other channels you don't want (select 301 here)
8 ) Finalize

Suggest you also put CO on the box in case you need it in the future.

As Bizman says, the Freeview.dat is out of date but you should be ok if you use PcControl (just iterate towards your desired config)

I installed the latest version of TopManager Geoff (Windows 8 (sadly)) and followed your instructions. It turns out that I had got rid of most of the trash channels, but oddly, one or two channels were there twice with different channel numbers. For instance, BBC News24 was there on its old number (80), and its new one (130). I deleted the old one, rebooted the Toppy and left it for a on for a while. All now seems to be well with the EPG and the timers. Previously it was going to record Celebrity Big Brother when I set it to record Dallas. Weird. The Toppy behaviour that is, not that I want to record Dallas. Mind you . . .

Your advice is always detailed and helpful Geoff. Thank you.

The old channels are still being broadcast so this explains why you have two of each. This is probably so that those who haven't yet retuned can still receive these channels. At some point, the old channels will no longer be broadcast and we will be back to a normal set of channels.

Can't speak for why it recorded the wrong program but I suspect that you should be OK from now on.

I can't work that out either Geoff. Perhaps something to do with +1 channels or something. Or a corrupt file that has now been replaced. I really have no idea. The important thing is that everything seems to be fine now. :D .

Thanks again

EPG changes

Post by pol098 »

I don't know what the situation with the revision of freeview.dat is (it has become badly out of date with the 3 September changes), but I have revised my version using the information on Wikipedia
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_d ... s_%28UK%29

I still get some error warnings ("LCN 712 appears to have moved to LCN 792 - the entry for the former should be changed - what? No it shouldn't as far as I can see). I've put in the normal hours for BBC3 (so it probably won't work properly the next time the Olympic Games are held in Britain and BBC3 hours are extended). The children's, news, and BBC interactive channels are duplicated in transmission - they are transmitted on both old and new channels for the moment - and I have not included the old channels. I have also trimmed the verbosity to keep the file within 20,000 bytes and 150 lines, which is says is required (I don't know if that restriction still holds); having removed all unnecessary space characters, columns don't line up.

I don't want to pre-empt an official freeview.dat (maybe waiting for the discontinued allocations to stop transmitting?), but if anyone wants this and nobody objects I can make it available.

A retune will find the 7x, 8x, and 300 duplicated at different numbers; that is a real effect, not due to software or data, and the old ones should be deleted.

Spurious message about "MS Favourites" folder?

Post by pol098 »

I run Channel Organiser B2.1 (CO) for retuning, and always get a message when trying to fix the favourite channel lists to the effect that the "MS Favourites" folder can't be found (I don't remember the exact wording). I'm not running MyStuff, but am running Jag's EPG (which doesn't support favourites). Any favourites lists for the standard EPG get deleted, even if there have been no channel renumberings. I understood that CO should update standard EPG favourites in the absence of MyStuff. I think this never happened with earlier CO B1.2, but always with B2.1. I've ignored it so far, as it's not that important. Is there any way to correct this minor CO misbehaviour?

P.S.: I don't use the patch equivalent to the DescriptionExtender TAP as it's not compatible with Jag's EPG.
