The weather

Post by albertd »

Don't forget that, if you are in one of the areas being affected by co-channel interference caused by the present weather, our Toppy boxes can suffer disk wipes due to the resulting loss of quality caused by the interference.

It might be safest to keep Toppy boxes off if your area is being affected.

You can use one of the signal monitoring utilities to check your signal strength and quality.

Just bumping this (very old) thread because it applies again today. though it looks as if the problem may be fading towards the end of the day.

Thanks for this. I've been going crazy this morning. Topfield showing signal strength but no quality across the board. Connected TV direct to aerial and problems again and was about to go and have a look at the aerial.

On my old computer I had bookmarked a site that predicted areas to be affected by the pressure - anyone have a handy link?

The above link doesn't appear to show any issues currently (I've never used the site so may be reading it incorrectly)

There are no reported issues on the Waltham transmitter (none on Nottingham either)

So, it looks like you should check out the aerial, the internal cables and/or the capacitors in the toppy.

Thanks Geoff. When ever (and it's not often) I have serious reception issues I bypass the Toppy and plug the aerial directly into the TV which this morning showed poor signal.

I've just checked again and all is back to normal - the Toppy showing 100% quality on all MUXs and all TV channels operating as they should.

So if it's not atmospheric (and an internet search suggests others have been having problems) then I'll need to check the aerial for damp connections else I'm stuck with my location and the weather combination.

The linked map shows marginal conditions over parts of the UK. I know from working offshore that you can get issues twice a year, in the Spring & Autumn, usually early Sept to mid Oct for Autumn, it can vary from day to day.

When I looked at the map, the signals were around 0/1/2 indicating little interference (high numbers indicate it is prevalent).
But then again, I haven't used the site before so may be misreading it.
