TRF7160 choppy recording

Post by dsmorrell56 »

My Topfield TRF7160 is making bad recordings. On playback, at random moments, the picture pixelates then the recorder displays the last good frame & sound dies. Playback resumes as normal 1 to 5 seconds later, having skipped the bad part of the recording.

I know it's a problem with recording as faulty programs play exactly the same way every time.

Signal strength quality are good on all channels.

There is no obvious link to time of day or how long the recorder has been on.

The recorder is well ventilated & is not hot.

Factory original firmware is in place. There are no TAPS.

Power off & on doesn't change the behaviour.

Have not tried a full reset yet but will if I must.

I have not yet been able to see if it might be a problem with trying to record & playback too much at once. Working on that by dumping programmes into folders marked Good & Bad once they have been played. Maybe a pattern will emerge once I have 20 or so to analyse.

Any bright ideas?

I suggest that you run the HDDinfo TAP to see if the disk is failing.
