Your help is appreciated Geoff and I apologise for jumping the gun and doing stuff before your suggestions arrive. I should learn to be more patient.

There are MyStuff options which allow you to default to the native epg, just a thought.

How are you doing the channel scans?
Are you experiencing any other issues besides this EPG problem?
Hi Geoff

After the first HDD reformat the channels were still there. I didn't re-scan. I installed MyStuff, but the EPG was still in the native Topfield format.

I did a factory reset and reformatted the disk again. I tried to scan for channels using TopManager, but it lost the USB connection. I used the remote to try to open Installation in Settings on the box, but it wouldn't let me in. I thought that it had frozen, but it must have been doing a scan in the background, because after a while the channels appeared.
I installed MyStuff and re-booted, but the MyStuff Crashed at Last Startup message appeared. I left the box for the best part of an hour, but the EPG was still in in native form.

I repeated the Factory reset and reformat HDD process. I let the box scan for channels and installed MyStuff, including the option to re-install the firmware. I rebooted the box and the MyStuff error message appeared. I left the box on for a while. The EPG stayed in native form, so I turned the box off and left it until the following day.

When I turned the box on the error message appeared. I left the box on for an hour or so, and the EPG was still in native form. I was close to giving up, but later in the day I turned the box on to check the EPG.mei file, as you suggested. It was 1KB in size.

After reporting that to you, I decided to reformat the drive and install MyStuff again. I didn't do a factory reset or re-install the firmware. When I rebooted the Toppy there was no MyStuff error message. Twenty minutes later the EPG was in MyStuff format, and it has remained that way.

I don't get it. One thought that I have had is that after the first HDD reformat I might not have left the machine long enough for EPG.mei to populate. It doesn't explain the other occasions though, because I made sure to leave it for at least an hour each time.

I have experienced no issues other than the EPG problem. I first suspected that all was not well when a series recording wasn't put in a folder, as it should have been, according to my MyStuff settings.

I'm sorry that this post is long-winded. You have been very helpful and I hope that there is something that you can glean from it.

I spoke too soon Geoff.

It's recorded an episode of a series and not put it in the folder that it created. The epg has reverted to the native Topfield format.

I'll post the file that you requested tomorrow

Thank you for sharing your idea ccs.

I checked the MyStuff option T1 and the epg Source Filename is set to EPG.mei.

The Excludes in your pasted EPG2MEI.ini are telling EPG2MEI to ignore any data for those channels. Consequentially, the EPG never gets any data written to it.

Editing the file has removed these excludes so you should now get EPG info.

Do you have the latest Freeview.dat file ? (you might not if you are not connected to the internet when connecting to the Toppy) Note: This is the file that specifies the broadcast times that go in the .ini file

At this point, I don't know where the problem is (perhaps you haven't finalised properly in PcControl| Channel Management.

Suggest you try scanning (at some point) using the ChannelOrganiser tap rather than the Pcc mechanism.

Thanks Geoff
Do you have the latest Freeview.dat file ?
I think so. I'll check this evening.
perhaps you haven't finalised properly in PcControl
That's a possibility, or even a probablility  . I try to remember to finalise the files, but the evidence strongly suggests that I have failed to do so.

.
I'll do that this evening.

What is the best process for re-tuning after reformattin the HDD and installing MyStuff?

I suggest you use CO for now while I work out why TM inserted the Excludes lines.
This will probably require a new version of TM which I can't quickly provide because I'm halfway through trying to modify it for something else.

There is no need to rescan after using GCBMyStuffInstaller (unless you have a specific reason to do so)

I only ever used CO for tuning, and always made sure I exited near the end to avoid it updating any config files.

@ccs

CO shouldn't change the content of the your .ini file now (although the date may change). This is because the latest I've removed all the broadcast times from the latest Freeview.dat.
As you are used to stopping CO early, I suggest you just carry on doing so.

Cheers, I stopped using my toppies nearly 5 years ago! :D

@fhjones

My apologies - it turns out your lack of a MS EPG was due to the changes I recently made to Freeview.dat (the perils of making changes!).

You will need to load the latest version of Freeview.dat if you want to use TM to do channel scans.

Cheers
