Finding the missing TAPs to go with MyStuff

Post by candlerb »

Hello,

For some unknown reason, my Toppy which has been working for years decided to wipe its hard drive a couple of days ago. MyStuff, all TAPs and all recordings have gone; but it says there's ~500GB free on the hard drive and it's still recording existing timers.

Anyway, I need to reinstall the bits. I've downloaded MyStuff 6.6 fine; but it seems all the other TAPs I used to use are gone. I tried to download eit2mei, Channel Organiser and Channel Remover via https://www.toppy.org.uk/downloads/taps.php?tc=all but all the origin sites are gone.

I thought I used epg2mei rather than eit2mei, but I can't find that at all.

Any pointers?

Many thanks... Brian.

P.S. I normally use macOS + an Asus with topfield-ftpd to upload files, hence I was planning to upload individual TAPs. However if I have to use a Windows bundle installer, I could dig out an old laptop.

Before you go too far with trying to set it up again, two points:

1. Have you had all the capacitors currently recommended by Andyfras replaced?

2. Have you checked the signal and quality figures for all Mux. If you are below about 98% quality on any Mux, that may be the reason for the wipe.

Geoff Bacon is the best to advise you on the TAPs.

Disk corruption is usually a sign that the power supply needs its capacitors replaced and/or a poor quality signal.

Contact andyfras if the caps need replacing.

I can recover recordings of a corrupted disk; but it is probably only worth doing if you haven't written a lot of recordings since the corruption.

The easiest way to install what you want is my GCBMyStuffInstaller program but this requires windows. You should choose option 1

If all the caps have not been replaced, do this as an urgency or you will suffer further problems e.g. another disk "wipe" or damage to components.

Geoff

Thanks for the answers.

I had replaced all the recommended capacitors, although this was some years ago (at least 5 I think)

After the disk was wiped I found it was missing even the top-level ProgramFiles folder, but it wouldn't let me mkdir a new one, so I did a disk format before reloading MyStuff.

I found a previously-downloaded copy of epg2mei.tap, and that appears to be working OK, and I also downloaded the logo.dat / smlogo.dat files. Things seem to be more or less back to rights, albeit with a different skin than I'm used to.

The main remaining issue is that I couldn't find the Channel Organiser tap (but I do have the PDF manual!), and that means I now have a load of junk channels again. I'm concerned that the EPG may run out of RAM if I can't delete them.

Cheers,

Brian.

All your questions have already been answered in the last week - have a quick look around.

Sounds like you'll be missing a number of MyStuff specific taps.

Yes, talk to andyfras by PM to check what you need to do, he is the expert on the subject.
