Many thanks for the comment - and nice to know that it worked as it should.

Have all your capacitors been changed in the toppy? (if not then contact Andyfras - otherwise it might happen again)

I suspect it rained a lot on Sunday so might be worth checking you don't have water in the aerial lead

Yes, I have replaced all capacitors (18 I think) but had forgotten about the possibility of poor signal .

Visibly checked the aerial lead and all looks perfect. Signal monitor gives 1 mux at 99:99:100 for quality and all others at 100:100:100 so hopefully we should be Ok.
Thanks again for your suggestions.

I have modified the installer so that prompts the user to select Freeview.dat or Freeview(Scotland).dat

The installer modifies the TopManager.ini file (if it exists) to say which variant was selected.

Sounds great Geoff 8) I'll be installing a a new HD in an 8500 I've been fixing up, so I'll let you know how it goes, might be a few weeks.
Had a quite few problems to start with, turns out these were all caused by a faulty HDD. After replacing the HDD I ran the installer (option 1) and all worked perfectly, had it up and running in no time. 8)
Also updated my main Toppy with the latest Freeview(Scotland).dat & FzTxData.tsv and retuned (after the LCN shuffles) it using TopManager, all smooth as silk :D
Thanks again for all your work.

About to give TopStuff a try and compare to EPGnavigator, reading info it looks complex.
Does Geoffs Installer work with WIndows 10 (all I have now) as the dlls are for vista and XP.

If you can use successfully run Antares on your W10 pc then GCBMyStuffInstaller will work (All windows systems use the same DLLs).

If you can't currently use Antares then you will need to fight with the "unapproved signature enforcement" (but I think you are already able to use Antares)

Thanks Geoff, all seemed to run ok on Windows10, hopefully the signature is updated correctly with TopManager
One strange thing is that TF shows a bad files directory, which I assume is historic as I had some that a previous scan showed had not copied correctly, but I recopied them from backup.

@wjohnm

There isn't really a Bad Files directory, it is a MS virtual folder for recordings that are corrupt. Suggest you try playing the file (I can't remember if MS allows you to) and then delete it (which it will let you).

Did I tell you about the recycle bin - you might like to modify the options so that it is enabled (it allows retrieval of recordings that you didn't mean to delete)

After finally getting round to re-installing MyStuff onto a replacement 5800 drive I ran your installer 1.1.0. It seemed to do all the necessary stuff but on running Channel Organiser it said Flash initiation failure and firmware.dat was not installed and closed down.

The install log showed (greyed):
301: ## Firmware.dat already copied (with MyInfo)

I must admit I manually updated the freeview.dat before starting the install. Also I updated the recommended_5800.tfd file with a few patches.

I've checked the files installed and firmware.dat IS installed in the utilities folder. Given a full power reset, no change.

What's gone wrong? and how to get around it?

Thanks
Dave

Referring to the above post....

I think I've sorted it. A power-off didn't do the cure, as noted. But going into the base Installation menu a factory reset was carried out, followed by a scan of one MUX followed by a restart and all appeared to run through OK, including Channel Organiser.

Only one issue now, even following a clear of EPG data, the channel/programme data appears to be out of kilter. The Guide is one channel adrift where the channels have been shifted up by one (ch.24+).

But it's an improvement. I'm sure I'll find out where it's gone (slightly) wrong.

I've just looked through the binary of ChannelOrganiser.tap and it does contain a
"Flash initiation failure" message (I originally thought this was from the FwLoad tap)

So, it looks to me that you ran the installer, modified the firmware manually and then tried to use CO to tune for channels. I suspect you didn't write the firmware into the toppy's NVRAM area (Non Volatile Random Access Memory).
This means that when CO accessed the firmware, it was accessing an old version which didn't match what it was expecting.

But I could be wrong!

The correct way to add extra patches to the firmware is to copy the required .tfp patch files to \ProgramFiles\InstallerFirmware\Add\ before running the installer.

I would then just rerun GCBMyStuffInstaller (option 1) and let it complete normally. Rerunning the installer shouldn't cause any issues as it only updates files that differ from those already on the toppy (and you have run it once already).

If you get any further issues, please create a new thread so that this one doesn't go off topic.

Channel 24 only available in Scotland for bbc4, so everything has had to be shifted up one on Nov 4th.

So despite clearing the EPG and it appearing to reload from nothing the incorrect programme data (one channel adrift ch.24+), after leaving it for 15 minutes or more (making a cuppa!), it sorted itself out.

Just one minor error in freeview.dat for ch.34 - easily changed.

One happy machine, one happy owner!

Thanks Geoff.

Just used this installer myself for MS after purchasing a non working 5810 (New PSU caps and HDD were required) Worked as expected other than I had to be patient for the EPG to load before going through menus/settings or MS would crash/become non responsive and ask for recovery mode on a reboot. I think I've had this before but I am talking about many years ago, 6 or more!
