More Memory?

Post by Bizman »

I notice several posters have done hardware upgrades by fitting larger drives, but I am curious to know if there is any reason why, on the 5810, the RAM capacity cannot be increased also? I haven't poked around inside, but perhaps there is no compatible chip(s) with twice the capacity, or maybe the addressing capability is not there?

The Toppy has got around 2500 times more RAM than man took to the moon. Why do you want any more?

Anyway it is probably multipin surface mounted and almost impossible to remove/replace. Also larger memory would need more address lines and therefore possibly more pins or a different memory driver chip. It is certainly not plug and play like replaceing a hard disk almost is.

But I'm not going to the moon. It was just that enthusiasts of a certain Netbook have done hardware mods of various sorts, including memory expansion and I was just curious.

memory in laptops and notebooks is usually plug in so fairly easily physically replaced.
