Yes! Just make sure you unplug Toppy from the wall and leave for a few minutes before you take the lid off etc. There are some dangerous high voltage components inside that can zap you big time!

No! It's a SATA drive so it would need a PATA/SATA adapter.

Check for known working PATA disks in this list:

Then try to find one on eBay or similar.

Perhaps someone on this forum has upgraded and can sell you their old one?

eBuyer still sell Western Digital 160GB, Samsung 160GB etc. I wouldn't risk a second-hand drive except from a trusted source.

The Samsungs linked are 2.5" drives so will still need adapter cables.

Oops. Sorry, linked to wrong Samsung drive (don't know where the drive I meant to link to has gone). The Western Digital, link, though, takes you to a drive that's on the list.

I think the fault (intermitant) got so bad and after hours of delicate soldering and resoldering, to to front panel PCB I have (as of to day ) ordered a replacment from Turbosat (£15.99 ) one can only hope.
Therefore, now need as requested, a HD, If any one would consider selling me a used one 160 or better still a 250 GB replacement hard drive, I would be most greatful. I also thank all the responces, to date.

@grahams : there's a 250GB drive from my 5800 (Jan '06) which has been waiting for freecycle since Aug '09. The 5800 suffered all-out PSU failure in Jul '01 so it's possible that the original disk was subject to undue stress - but I don't remember any signs of a problem. Anyway, PM your postal address if you'd like to give it a spin. No money required but feel free to do the forum donation thing if it works out.
