Options for Replacement to my Toppy

Post by bgw »

Hi,

I looking at what would be a good replacement for my old Topfield PVR5000. With similar features :-
- freeview / teresstrial
- twin tuner
- PVR
- Aceess across the network / USB download of content (Wi-Fi preferable).
- OK - HD support ;-)
- HDMI
- SATA HDD support even if external

Looking at World of Satellite - https://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk/sa ... io-4k-grey

That's only got 1 freeview tuner (and 1 satellite tuner).

Sourcing enigma boxes with only freeview tuners is difficult at the moment, but some manufacturers support twin dvb-T2 tuners ie. one aerial input, one tuner slot, but effectively 2 tuners.

I have recently bought a Humax HDR Fox T2 to replace my failed toppy 5810.

Not entirely happy with it compared to the toppy but does the job.

They appear on e bay quite often

You know about the modded firmware for the T2 which adds a lot of useful functionality?

Thanks. Yes I am aware of the modded software and the box I bought came with it installed. But I miss MyStuff. The Humax EPG is nowhere near as good.

It would be difficult to find anything as good as MyStuff. It was developed with input of many keen users. All the good ideas went into it. Therefore it is almost perfect. I don't think manufacturers are prepared to put the effort into their software that was put into MyStuff.

The end of an era.

Not for the SD channels that require a T2 tuner for reception.
Ex Toppy 5800 user - now migrated to Xtrend ET10000 Enigma 2 box with 2 terrestrial and 2 satellite tuners. Second box Zgemma H9S (Enigma 2, satellite)

Indeed, so far on my transmitter (Craigkelly) that seems to comprise about 6 +1 channels, a couple of shopping and 2 music channels, none of which I'm bothered about.
No doubt that will change as the clearances continue, although sometimes channels come back, IIRC Film4+1 was on was (for a year or so) on an HD mux and it's now back on a SD one.

Perhaps they will go with my suggestion that they leave one MUX on DVB-T to host the main channels in SD for the foreseeable future: BBC 1/2, ITV,C4 and Five plus as many radio stations as will fit.

I still have 3 Toppys working daily but when they go I don't think I will get the functionalit of MyStuff in any other device.

.... I've been using an enigma2 box for nearly 5 years and would totally disagree.

Which box do you use? On investigation I discovered that Enigma 2 is an operating system and not a receiver. If you have had yours for some years I would presume that there is an improved model available.

I've got an Xtrend ET10k, which is no longer available, but it runs the latest version of OpenViX, the same as all the other manufacturers current models.

Finding one with (more than 2) terrestrial tuners is not so easy at the moment.

You can have both satellite and terrestrial tuners in the same box if that suits your needs.

I have had a look at the current ones. They do seem to be aimed at satelite reception but some do have one terrestial tuner as well.
