Thanks slimgym, I may go for one of these.

I'm also looking at this one too (which seems a bit closer to the original Toppy): https://manhattan-tv.com/products/manha ... d-recorder

Only thing that would put me off that is two simultaneous records, potential for truncated recordings if something starts early or over-runs. MyStuff dealt with that perfectly by merging recordings. The Humax, not so much of a risk - it can record four at once while you watch a fifth.

While it is true that the Humax can record four at once, what it cannot do is record two copies of the same channel at the same time. So if you want two consecutive programmes, it is down to hoping that the programme start signals are accurate, or setting one to SD and the other to HD.

Can you not set a fixed time hammock recording to cover both B2B programmes?

Yes, that is another way around the restriction, but you cannot (I believe) do it from the EPG, you have to set it up in the Schedules page.

Having read a few reviews of both boxes I've found that:

Manhattan is much quicker (button presses etc)
Humax has streaming services
Manhattan has a nicer interface
Can copy SD programmes from Humax and not Manhattan
Humax has 3 tuners
Manhattan has better support from manufacturer and more frequent updates (although it's new)
Humax has wifi built in
Manhattan 500GB is £119; Humax 500GB is £199 (£169 refurb)

Has anyone seen/got the Manhattan to offer a user experience?

What would you guys go for?

Thanks

I went for the Humax 5000T

Pleased with it so far. At the moment the thing I miss is the ability to add a future programme.
Eg If I knew "FRED" was starting in two weeks time in MS I could put a search for "FRED" in and it would record it when it appeared in the EPG but I haven't found a way for the Humax to do it.

I also find the EPG is a little slow to populate especially if you move towards the end of the week

The only way I have found to do that would be a manual record or wait for it to appear in the EPG 7 days ahead. It's a shame the global search can't be used to remember for future and auto-record. But I expect it's something few people would need or use.

It's one of the reasons I've not given up on the Toppy yet. I have numerous searches, some of which I actually record on another box, but the Toppy is my main means of discovery

@Earl_Hickey
Thanks for the heads-up on that Manhattan box, it looks very professional. Never heard of them before today.

As ever, of course it doesn't do the MyStuff text/power searches (no-one ever does :( ), which is why I keep my limping Toppy going. Half tempted to contact them and ask of they could add something similar!

What is not clear from the available user guide is whether it can/will pad the timers and what it does with back-to-back programmes. As albertd points out, the Humax makes a bit of a mess of that.

That does appear to be the solution favoured by this forum. From the comments in the relevant threads though, it sounds like a cumbersome and strictly-for-techies solution that kind of covers the desired functionality, but not really. And can be a bit buggy.

So you're saying it's a simple solution that can easily be setup and used by my granny, and that upgrades don't cause problems. That's not what people have written on here
