Hello again ...

Post by nwhitfield »

Well, hello again...

If you're reading this, we're all back up and running, with a server software upgrade, and an upgrade to phpBB3. As far as I can see, all messages etc have been ported over ok.

There's just the one style, but at least the forum lives on ...

Nigel.

Many thanks Nigel.

Not sure I like the style as it is not making full use of the screen on my desktop (perhaps it is designed/chosen to be "Mobile friendly"?).

One thing I initially missed was an obvious "posts since last visit" link.
For others who use this feature, it is in "Quick links" (just below the Toppy.org.uk logo)

Cheers
Geoff

Yes, the style is mobile friends. You may be able to change to the default 'Pro Silver' one, but honestly, hunting down alternate ones to add them is not really high on the to-do list.

There's no option I can see in the UCP to change styles, IIRC styles have to be marked active in the ACP and the override set to no (ACP/board settings) before the option is visible and even then only if more than one style is installed. Even the prosilver style is responsive in phpbb 3.3.3 I've used it and it works well.

I notice that "unread" highlight marks are not being cleared when posts/threads are read.

Edit: Not sure if that is strictly accurate, but there is something wrong with the highlighting of thread names on the index pages.

Hi Nigel

The FAQ for signatures displays
"How do I add a signature to my post?
To add a signature to a post you must first create one via your User Control Panel. Once created, you can check the Attach a signature box on the posting form to add your signature. You can also add a signature by default to all your posts by checking the appropriate radio button in the User Control Panel. If you do so, you can still prevent a signature being added to individual posts by un-checking the add signature box within the posting form."

There doesn't appear to be such a radio button in the UCP.

Should there be one or are signatures always added which the user can unselect it on an individual post basis?
How about setting for all old posts?

Hi Nigel

My Forum signature displays fine on my existing posts.

However, looking at it on ucp.php?i=ucp_profile&mode=signature, I see that it starts with a [ size=84] whereas, pre BB3, it used to be [ size=10].

When I modify the size to 10, it doesn't preview properly on the profile page - it just displays as a very short red line.

Experimenting by selecting the canned sizes, it looks like "small" now uses a size of 85; do you know what small equated to pre BB3? *I suspect that was the 10)

This change in size probably explains why my TopManager program surprised me when it displayed a huge Signature.
While I can adapt TopManager, I believe that EMJB's MyInfo tap also sets size=10 in it's suggested signature.

Cheers
Geoff

I'm afraid I don't have a clue; I just accepted all the defaults when I did a migration; I did notice some warnings about font sizes larger than 200!

A quick google suggets that the bbcode parser is using percentages rather than absolute values. I suppose that makes it more responsive when people use things like a larger default font, or pinch-to-zoom.
