Strange layout on one thread

Post by albertd »

Can others see a strange difference in layout between this thread:

http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21064

and others around it, such as this one:

http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21061 ?

For me, the majority just fit in nicely between the screen margins, whereas the first one spreads way off the right hand side.

I am seeing differences similar to this on a Windows laptop, an iPhone and an Android tablet, so very different platforms and browsers.

Any thoughts on the cause?

I suspect that it's due to the link in this post:

http://forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/viewtop ... 074#270074

My browser (Pale Moon) splits it, perhaps yours tries to keep it on one line?

Hi Andy. Nice to hear from you. That link is split for me too, but the split line vanishes off to the right.

Doing a bit of digging, I am getting similar effects in other threads containing posts by the original poster of the first thread (crg511), don't know why though.

Just rechecked them on the tablet and the odd behaviour is slightly different. On one, the sidebar is narrower and the thread text smaller, compared with the other. That is usng the Opera browser

For me, it's that particular post. The logic behind splitting the URL only appears to allow it at certain characters, such as the '?'

Was OK on IE and Firefox on my PC but Chrome was offset as you described. No idea why but it was the link I posted that was causing it, I've edited the link (still works) and the thread is now normal for me on all the browsers I have (IE, Firefox, Chrome) on PC, Tablet/Phone (Android)

How very strange. Yes, that has returned it to normal for me. The really odd thing is that the other threads involving posts by crg511 have also returned to normal.

Mysterious stuff this technology. :)
