Also IIRC Altair used to have a problem sending files to the root of a drive - you had to put it in a folder

If you want, the icon for MacTF is a picture of the Toppy, so you could just copy that off the app onto your folder. That way it will also look OK if you are using 128x128 icons.

Not a walkthrough, but from memory (so it may not be 100% correct), here's one way: 1. Convert from whatever the file is to MPEG2 TS using ffmpegX. Can't remember if this converts audio automatically, you may have to select to change that if it doesn't. 2. Open that file up in MPEG StreamClip, conne...

Heh, you UK people should think yourselves lucky! Here in Australia we don't even get a gappy EPG, just Now/Next! Seriously though, I can't help with your gaps except to say that a TAP that caches the EPG data is probably your best option (there are heaps such as Mystuff, Jags, etc). EPGnavigator is...

Also, I have a few other example AppleScripts up on the MacTF site. If I remember, I think one of them goes through a given folder and uploads everything with a given extension, which might be useful for you. As for ftpd-topfield on OS X, I did get it working at one stage, not sure if it compiles ou...

Note that you will need to encode and AC3 audio into mpg audio... Sort of off topic, but this is a couple of times I have seen this said, and I wonder why. Does the 5800 not handle AC3 audio at all? Or is it just that most of you don't have it hooked up digitally? We get our audio broadcast here in...

Sounds like ToppyEPG is moving along nicely. My suggestion for a file input is TGD format, as that's what all the Oz based users will have. If you need any help in testing, or talking to the Toppy (you could interface via AppleScript and MacTF for example, but then that's not very platform-independa...

Otherwise ffmpegX is good for converting all sorts of files to different formats. It's not the easiest to use initially (you need to download and install some opensource components), but very useful.

Streaming from Toppy to computer is definitely possible. MPEG Streamclip can do this on a Mac. It can be choppy if not using USB2 and turbo, but fine if you are (even on higher bitrate files like we get here in Oz)

Sure. Also, give v1.2 a go if you haven't already. Some people have found it is more stable on their system (although 1.3 is solid for me).

Could just be a bug on my part. Send me the crash log at "nathan at noates.com" and I'll see what's up. There shouldn't be any issues with USB1.1 vs USB2 as far as I know.

The only other Mac alternative is MPEG StreamClip (just remember to activate the Altair menu in the prefs).

...as you'd need to wait for the entire mp3 to be uploaded. I wonder if this is true. I started fiddling with trying to stream video to the Toppy via USB via TAP (not via firmware) and saving it to disk, but due to the crashing from the way I was trying, it never got far as I could only send data v...

I think Nigel pretty much covered it for me. I should add a XMLTV->TGD converter to MacTF-EPG I guess, but unfortunately I'm halfway through an interstate move so it's not that high on the priority list... :? For TAPs etc, you want to go to the Berlios site (I forget the URL at the moment) and grab ...

USB transfer resume

Before I resort to educated guesses and experimentation, I thought I'd ask if anyone here knew how Altair manages to resume uploads/downloads. I'd like to add it to MacTF, and looking at the documentation that came with the latest version of the dll (which added this feature), it mentions it as part...
