My signal is marginal, and I find that it's worthwhile giving each aerial connection a reseat from time to time, or if I start to see some break-up. Please note that it's only important to have high 90's signal QUALITY; signal strength should ideally be somewhat less than 100% to prevent swamping of...

Not so much a new development, just the manifestation of the faulty tuner. At that point you were watching a channel on tuner 2, so the recordings were using tuner 1, which is why they failed (channels 3 & 4 are from the same mux, so only require one tuner). As Geoff suggests, a replacement Topp...

It's OK in Pale Moon (Firefox) Win10 (subSilver).

Ahh, I see what you mean if you are in Toppy2 format.

That may mean corrupted firmware then. Load new firmware using the Antares procedure.

If you set up Antares with Empty Settings preloaded as described in the procedure, then switch the Toppy on from being powered off (at the mains if necessary), it should find it during that short connection window. However, my bet is on a disk problem.

Have you tried disconnecting the HDD? If it then boots OK, it's disk corruption causing the problem. If it's still stuck in the loop with the disk disconnected, then I suspect that Win10 update has broken the drivers for TFDN_USB.exe. If you have successfully loaded the Z4T drivers you could use the...

I agree too.

Thanks Nigel for keeping it going so far and for offering to continue, at least for a while longer.

Seconded. EMJB's work is one of the main reasons that the Toppy has been able to continue as long as it has.

Check the voltage on the wide tab of U20 relative to the chassis; it's under the left edge of the card reader. It is fed from 3.3V and should be very close to 1.5V; if it's less than 1.45V, it's probably the cause of the problems you are seeing, as it powers the main processor.

I'm impressed that you can keep track of those items. We still have the same dishwasher, washing machine and boiler that we had when the Toppy was bought 13 years ago; they have needed some fixes though. I strongly recommend fitting the prophylactic capacitor kit that you bought. You may find that i...
