When the IR receiver in the front panel fails, it usually also affects the front panel buttons, but you say they are working normally. So I'm not sure that the IR receiver is the cause of the problem. However, the Toppy will certainly benefit from a set of new capacitors. Turbosat will only have rep...

I always cut off the black connector (scissors are ideal), then connect black to the mainboard and blue to the adapter. Only the blue connector picks up the earth screen, so using the short length between black and grey will not work.

It's important to connect the 80-wire cable 'backwards'. This means that the end that would normally go to the mainboard should go to the adapter and vice-versa. This is due to the way that intermediate wires are earthed (no connection on mainboard).

Sorry, your reading of the right hand leg is correct, it is supposed to be about 3V.

However, as the tab is reading 1.25V, U20 has failed. It should definitely be very close to 1.5V.

I can supply a replacement if you want to replace it yourself, or you can send your Toppy to me.

Those should read 1.5V and 3.3V, but before doing anything else, check the rest of the voltages, as I suspect your meter may need a new battery. The 3.3V rarely reads low.

When you say that you switched it on and off, was that via the remote or the mains?

It will record free-to-air channels, but there would probably be no EPG beyond Now & Next as it's not signed up to Freesat. I don't know the model, but it seems to date from 2009, so will almost certainly suffer from PSU capacitor issues, like other Toppies. It would need both LNBs connected if ...
