Sadly no; it's a load of rubbish that won't work at all.

If your TV has a Component connection (usually on several RCA/Phono sockets), the Toppy can be connected using its Component (YUV) setting via a Scart to Component + Audio lead. I used to have a stock of these that I had modified to work on a Toppy, but I've now run out. I could be persuaded to make...

Our Toppy is used for all the day-to-day recordings, but I use a Foxsat HDR for HD recordings (I had a newer Humax but it 'lost' its disk, as several seem to do).

You need to enable SMART on the disk. I think that you need to run HDDInfo to do that. Then run FsCheck again.

I suggest you pm Andyfras asking him for details of his capacitor service; he used to offer repairing it for you, or a board exchange or providing the capacitors for you to solder yourself. As you were not aware of the caps problem, I suggest you go for his board exchange system (assuming he still ...

Incidentally, you can use 2 x 5800 together by installing the Ry patch on one of them, then using a 5810 remote with it.

Perhaps the 2 Muxes in question are transmitting in T2 mode, even though they shouldn't be. That would explain the high signal level with no quality. It would also explain why it's only affecting some devices.

C25 is the cause of the 3.3V being low on Toppy 1 and is the cause of the problems you were seeing. This suggests that it hasn't had any capacitors replaced, as C25 was always included, even in the earliest sets. Toppy 2 seems a bit odd as the 12V and 8V are slightly low, but some other voltages are...

It's possible that the unchanged capacitors are now causing problems as they fail. I've not managed to pin symptoms to these capacitors. It's also possible that the problem is poor signal or atmospherics. Or a failing disk. Try running some diagnostic TAPs such as Signal Monitor and FsCheck (Utiliti...

The grease seems to come out of the silicone membrane over time. The soldering iron method burns it off.

Andy do you still do PSU repairs? You may recall I visited on two occasions, en route from London to Dorset with two toppies, on one you did PSU, and the other you the PSU and replace the hard disk. We will be going to Dorset some time this year, but probably not before Easter. Yes, still doing PSU...

If you don't need a particularly large disk, I can offer a WD 320GB SATA with adapter and cable for £30 inc. postage. This drive is very quiet and cool.

I'm happy to install the usual TAPs (MyStuff etc.), or some unusual ones.

Be careful with isopropyl alcohol on the black traces on the circuit-board as it can dissolve them. I've found that the pads on the membrane can become non-conductive (measure with meter probes). My favourite solution is to touch them with a hot soldering iron (the membrane is silicone so won't melt).

Please supply a photo of the suspect capacitor; I've never known one of my replacement capacitors to fail.
