Toppies For Sale

The time has come for me to significantly reduce my stock of spare Toppies and parts. I have some complete, fully working Toppies, and some that require repair (mostly tuner replacement). Is anyone interested before I set about these set-ups and repairs? I also have spare PSU boards for all models.

Well done for persevering Geoff.

I don't understand Google's reasoning with New Google Sites; it seems to be deliberately crippling everything that worked well on the original sites, specifically tables and file storage.

I'm holding out as long as possible.

Forget Newlink; only the earliest adapters worked with the Toppy. The big problem with SATA adapters on the Toppy is that the IDE lead needs to be 80 wire (ultra ATA 66/100/133) and connected 'backwards', which means that the connector which would normally go the disk, goes to the Toppy mainboard, a...

I've found that the Seagates used in Humax's can be a bit picky about the SATA adapter used in a Toppy. You might be lucky.

No, I'm not collecting any more Toppies. I've got about 10, each having one faulty tuner. One day I might try to make some good ones out of the pile and recycle the rest.

Yes, I've also known this version to crash on some Toppies, unless there is an accompanying .ini file. Version 0.53 does not suffer from this.

It's more likely to be a faulty IR receiver on the Toppy front panel.

Thanks for keeping the site going Nigel. I think that you might be surprised how many Toppies are still in daily use.

If the remote is visible on all buttons using a digital camera, the fault is the other end, i.e. the front panel. Presumably you can't borrow another Toppy remote to try? I have probably replaced over 20 front panel IR receivers and one remote IR transmitter, so that shows that it's far more likely ...

I strongly suggest replacing the capacitors if you want it to continue. There are some caps which will cause a lot of damage to the PSU when they fail, so it becomes a much more expensive repair.

It's not unheard of for the IR receiver on the Toppy front panel to fail. This often prevents the front panel buttons from working properly too.

I can repair your front panel, or I can supply the part if you're handy with a soldering iron.
