Is the root cause of these playback problems the recent resolution changes on Mux D34 (ITV1, Ch4, Ch5, E4, ITV2, ITV1+1, More4, Ch4+1) where all channels have been changed from either 544x576 or 704x576 to 720x576? I haven't had any problems with my toppy but my Hauppauge DEC-2000t had been failing ...

Don't forget that any radio stations that you haven't pruned also add to the EPG. Well, yes and no. It's true that only your selected channels, radio and TV, are shown in the on screen EPG. Internally the Topfield is attempting to store all EPG entries for all channels irrespective of whether or no...

This post adds some background about the steady upward trend in the number of epg entries. Since 2008 I have been dumping epg data from the PVR every week for use with a scheduling program and it was in May this year that the program started to consistently detect significant gaps. At the time I did...

@geoff. I left epg2mei out initially as it didn't seem relevant unless I was using something that made use of the epg.mei file, such as MyStuff. I have just tested it in case I'd misunderstood what it does. On the first restart of the PVR, the epg.mei file and the serial port epg data dump are in (r...

@ccs. Thanks for the prompt about the TAPs. I had looked at the descriptions of these just before the Olympics but decided to put off any alterations to the PVR until the games were over. Now with no excuse I've installed the Recommended_TF5800 firmware from the website along with the eit_sub and se...

I be interested to know if you were able to solve this problem although I suspect that you will not. I believe that the underlying issue is that the Topfield firmware attempts to store all of the epg information in memory and that the space reserved for that, 14,000 slots, is no longer sufficient. A...

Bob,
My interpretation of the docs is that the service id is in the toppy model independent section of the rec header, www.topfield.cc/files/Firebird/TF_Internal_Info.pdf . It should be ok to use a hard coded offset of 0x12 to get the value from a rec file.

Hi, I suspect that the converter is being confused by the toppies inconsistent handling of the rec header when a file is edited. In an untouched rec file the transport stream data will start at offset 3712 (decimal) and that does not change when sections are edited from the body or end of the file. ...

On mine, an original silver TF5800, the circuit board is clearly visible when a bright light, e.g. an LED torch, is shone at the front panel. The sensor can be seen just to the right of the seven segment display.

What length USB cable are you using? As you can see from my sig I've never had any successs copying to the Topfield with the long cable and always have to take the laptop to the PVR.

If I edit the rec file header and change the ServiceID, must I then also change the PMTPID etc? The PIDs reflect the values in the transport stream and to change them in the header would achieve nothing apart from perhaps making the file unplayable. It happens that the two you have mentioned are cr...

Hi, I've been experiencing the E4 issue for a while and have spent some time looking at the recorded files to see if they contain any evidence which would point to the cause of the problem. My own recordings made on or before 30 Nov 2009 are OK and as R2's original post mentions a bad recording made...

Hi, I've no comment to add on bitrates above what has already been said but I will mention the frame rate. Recoding from 30 to 25 fps with Womble Videowizard always results in a slightly jumpy picture, most noticeable when the scene is panning horizontally. Left at 30fps, with the toppy AV output TV...

Here's a update and a useful work around. The Topfield USB interface does not show everything on the hard disk...
