Re: Topfield 5800 in 2021

Plex is very picky about the naming conventions used with TV shows. I recorded a load of Everybody Loves Raymond on the Topfield, copied them to a NAS and then had to meticulously rename each file (from .rec to .ts) so it followed a strict naming convention - so the folder they all lived in was for ...

Just to say I've seen the nag but it's only barely a 'nag', just a single line in the archive page. I remember the same nag back 5(?) yrs ago when MyStuff was still just on the edge of being at the end of development and it was fixed back then with a much longer expiry date on it and hey presto that...

I still use the Toppy as my main recording facility. I've been meaning to switch to one of the newer OpenVix PVRs for years now but the toppy just carries on doing such a great job (with MyStuff of course) that I just keep putting it off continuously. We got a newer Panasonic 4k / UHD TV (CX400) a f...

although other aspects/applications may benefit (ie transferring data to a PC would be a lot quicker). I think the limiting factor for transferring is the usb not the HDD I meant if you had the disk attached to the PC/host directly (using TopfHDRW for transfer), in such an application then SSD is a...

I installed an SSD a few years ago into a 5800 and had no problems at all with it. On the contrary it made a huge difference in terms of noise (or lack thereof, was absolute bliss going from a noisy old disk I had in there at the time). I don't know that there's a huge increase in speed given the ap...

As an aside, just out of curiosity can you watch live TV via a network connection on an OpenVix DVR? ie in an upstairs bedroom, fire up the PC and be able to watch live TV on the zgemma (or whatever) box downstairs in the living room? Yes, you can watch live TV on a networked device and simultaneou...

I've written this procedure explaining how to build a similar setup: http://unixetc.co.uk/2019/11/22/how-to-watch-and-record-live-tv-with-a-raspberry-pi/ That's very interesting. I wondered if a Pi was up to the job of being a Toppy replacement. I may well look into that when mine is finally retire...

Re: How did this happen...?

1. I accidentally pressed some key, or combination of keys (don't know what) and up popped a list of "Recently watched recordings". I had no idea anything like that even existed!? Recently watched recordings pops up if you press and hold the SloMo key (left most button underneath rewind)....

If it helps I have my old Toppy which stopped working with the usual PSU problem (was running a long term experiment to see how long it would go on the original caps). I assume the mainboard on that is still fine so you are welcome to take it off my hands for the cost of P&P if you like. Or bas...

I don't have a spare mainboard, as it would involve taking one from a working Toppy. I thought you were saying you had a pile of boxes that were only suitable for spares: Sorry, I can't accept any more, as I've been unable to sell the ones I've got, and I've got a pile of ones that are suitable onl...

Sorry, I can't accept any more, as I've been unable to sell the ones I've got, and I've got a pile of ones that are suitable only for spares. I just read this and thought about the spare Topfield 5800 I have at the moment that needs a replacement mainboard - do you have a working mainboard spare th...
