Re: Toppy free to anyone who wants it.

I have a TF5800 + remote, free to anyone who wants to collect from Woodford Green or pay the postage. It works, but was temperamental when last used - my guess is that it needs new capacitors. Anyway, I thought I'd offer it to Toppy users before recycling it. Is it still available friend? I live in...

Upgrading firmware using latest Mac OSX Mavericks

I've had cause to have the capacitors changed (separate issue) and since then I've found old software is on my Toppy TF5800. When I do a channel scan the programmes are all over the place and I'm advised to install the latest firmware. BBC is on channel 1 / BBC2 on Channel 2 but ITV starts at channe...

Re: Toppy asking me to format hard drive from switch on

Many thanks to everyone....capacitors were "broke" - now fixed but hard drive was corrupted so lost everything.

Thanks to all for your help it was invaluable.

Toppy asking me to format hard drive from switch on

Toppy 5800 which has been faithful for years. Must confess HD is almost full (about 15 hours recording space left on 160GB). Switched on tonight and was immediately asked to format HDD yes or no. Cannot access "archive" therefore cannot watch any recorded programmes. Cannot record new ones...

Re: Why are you using a Mac?

I understand you are struggling to install updated firmware with a Mac. Why do you continue to inflict pain upon yourself? Surely you have a friend, relation or work colleague who might lend you their laptop to perform the task? Just a thought  Now that IS a good idea..........many thanks! Now...

I suggest you just do what you did on the first toppy but, this time, make copious notes of how you did it. This will help you if/when you have to repeat the exercise. Geoff many thanks to all who have responded..............I'll just have to be brave and get on with!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I pluck up th...

What is the worst that could happen? It's virtually impossible to "brick" a Toppy in a way that you cannot recover. The worst that is likely to happen is that transferring the firmware doesn't work and the original firmware on the 2nd machine gets corrupted and you are left with a seeming...

re-running the Firmware installer should be a piece of cake. Running the firmware installer on a MAC may be a problem :( but using HDFW again shouldn't :) Oops! Missed / forgot the Mac bit of the equation. Sorry. A firmware transfer could take approx 0.5 hour @ 9600 baud ... or a minute or two at m...

Toppy 2 - the one with the old firmware (the one currently giving me problems) has a multitude of programmes my wife has recorded - almost filled the 160GB hard-drive - which she wants to keep. What I would like to do is transfer ALL the recorded programmes from Toppy 2 to Toppy 1 via RS232 (null m...

Alternatively, you could be the first known person to try the Toppy-to-Toppy method. Julie[/quote] Many thanks for your attention to my triviality - it really is gratefully appreciated. Now............has anyone ever transferred "data" via RS232 "machine to machine" My Toppy 1 - ...

but just tried it again - did a full rescan and guess what the process has virtually reversed.....BBC programmes now start at 1000 plus. That sounds like you are running old firmware without the NitFix patch. I'm surprised nobody has yet asked you what firmware version you're running. (Well, Hyde d...

Toppy 5800 (plural) transferring firmware?

Mebe you saw my previous post regarding upgrading Firmware from the original. I eventually did it with the help of Forum members - for which I am eternally grateful - but boy what a struggle. However I have TWO Toppy 5800's. NOW.....I am reliably informed that firmware can be copied between machines...

I checked a couple of versions of the manual, and didn't see anything. Maybe I missed it (i'm not getting any younger), or maybe it is in later editions. On checking the 5800 menu "Installation" it does clearly have the option to transfer either firmware or data between machines using the...
