Re: [SOLVED] Can't login or contact admin?: Forum upgrade disruption ...

Checking PayPal, admin@toppy.org.uk is still a valid address to send payments to, but don't worry too much about it - the site's now running on the dev server in my office, which I use for testing code I'm writing for other projects (hence the need to keep a modern PHP version on it), so the margina...

Re: [SOLVED] Can't login or contact admin?: Forum upgrade disruption ...

To respond to a couple of things, 1. Yes, you can object to using a password forgotten form if you haven't forgotten. It won't get you very far. It's the easiest way to fix things, and frankly putting lots of time into admin for this site is some way down my priority list at the moment. The product ...

Re: Emails for Private Messages

Thank god someone's on top of where all these options are ;-)

The only other phpBB3 system I look after is so heavily modded that most of this side of stuff is not used at all.

Re: Hello again ...

I'm afraid I don't have a clue; I just accepted all the defaults when I did a migration; I did notice some warnings about font sizes larger than 200! A quick google suggets that the bbcode parser is using percentages rather than absolute values. I suppose that makes it more responsive when people us...

Re: TopManager V7.0

No, the old scripts might still be on the server, but they're no longer compatible with the latest versions of PHP. For things like viewtopics, you can usually just change that one element in the path to get the new forum's equivalent. For other stuff, it may be a fiddlier. Any scripts at the old UR...

Re: TopManager V7.0

Assuming you need the same script as in the old version of the forum, just change the second 'forum' in the URL to 'phpBB3' - ie a link that was forum.toppy.org.uk/forum/blah.php is now forum.toppy.org.uk/phpBB3/blah.php

Re: Hello again ...

Yes, the style is mobile friends. You may be able to change to the default 'Pro Silver' one, but honestly, hunting down alternate ones to add them is not really high on the to-do list.

Hello again ...

Well, hello again...

If you're reading this, we're all back up and running, with a server software upgrade, and an upgrade to phpBB3. As far as I can see, all messages etc have been ported over ok.

There's just the one style, but at least the forum lives on ...

Downtime scheduled weekend April 10/11th 2021

I intend to update the server software next weekend. This is likely to mean some extended downtime for the forum, as it's almost certain some elements of the code will not be happy running under the newer versions of various things. I will try to make sure things get back to normal as soon as I can,...

This change has now been partially implemented; as you'll see, there's a new page telling people what happens if they try to get any of the database-generated content from the www site. The forums are running ok(ish) with the new database plugin, but will require a bit more fiddling before I can swi...

Possible upcoming site changes

As you'll all know, this site has been around a very long time, and has seen little in the way of serious updates, especially since Topfield lost the plot. One consequence of that is that the software running the site is now incredibly old. While it still works, it means that as long as the site con...

No, I have no immediate plans to do anything other than leave the site ticking along - the number of new people joining is pretty small now, so verifying people who sign up or change email address won't be too much of a chore, though it may perhaps not be as quick as when HTDS did it.

Massive thanks ...

Please can I say a massive thank you to John, aka HydeTheDarkerSide, who for the last few years has done the principle work of site admin in approving new members to the forum, and is now stepping down. Without his help, I doubt the site would have been going for as long as it has been, so massive t...
