I never thought that I'd say this but ...

... I hardly use my Toppy nowadays  Ever since I bought a refurb Hummy (and stuck a 2Tb disc inside) supplemented with a Projector and 100-inch screen, anything worth watching in HD (recorded of course) goes through that set-up. At least large screen HD is sometimes far more impressive than 32&...

Re: Aging hi-fi amp with dodgy inputs?

Your cheapest option is a switch box at around £4. Or you could try Andy but that might cost you one of your Toppys

Five here too  Silver Toppy to start with and upgraded to 1.5Tb hard drive and donated to a friend. Silver Topp is ageing gracefully and going strong. Cheapo (£80) Black Panther upgraded to 1.5Tb and in main use. Second cheapo Black Panther upgraded to 1Tb drive used in the bedroom for marital...

*No longer* Need Downton Abbey Series 3 Episode 1

[Edit: Got a copy now]

I'm archiving Downton and, somehow, Episode 1 of the last series is missing on my Toppy. If anyone still has this (in any form) I'd be grateful for a copy and would cover costs of material and postage or will contribute to the forum if preferred. Please pm me.

3D Broadcasts

Are 3D (satellite) broadcasts, such as those from the BBC, "viewable" on 3D TVs/projectors via ordinary (non $ky) HD/DVBS2 sat boxes or is there some other decoder required?

Re: Toppy still working fine after seven years - anyone else

My unmodified Topfield 5800 is working fine nearly seven years after I bought it (tempting fate, here). I often see posts saying things like "after three or four years, you need to replace the capacitors." Is my Toppy an outlier, or is it a case of "the squeaky wheel that gets the gr...

More important than side v flat position is the environment within which the Toppy is located, i.e. proximity to other heat generating/cooling objects (e.g. cabinet, surrounding objects, doorways, radiators etc). What you want is good airflow around the Toppy. Dust (both inside the case and outside)...

Logitech Harmony 700 (+ Ultimate Ears 200) £40 - delivered!

Good price from eBuyer on eBay. Remote should be as good as all other Harmony remotes. No idea as to the earbuds' quality :?

Briefly, Samsung and Western Digital are the best Toppy friendly brands and the smaller drives are not necessarily cheaper or better. 500 Gb is pretty standard for SATA nowadays. Make sure that you measure the PSU voltages before you invest in the adapter or the drive in case you need to stabilise t...

It is not recommended to put older power hungry IDE drives in the Toppy. The generated heat will simply clobber the power supply unit and hit the drive iteself as well as the motherboard. You'd be better off with a new SATA drive and an IDE/SATA adapter. It seems that the price of SATA drives have o...

I'm amazed that there seems to be no interest in this. I'll drop the price to £70, but if I get no response, I'll offer it on eBay on Monday. Knock 10 off the 5810 (5810-10=5800 :D) and you'll have loads of takers. A 5810 may be good news for you but not the owners  Having said that with the ...

There are plenty of regulated 5V/2A adapters available at a reasonable price. However, the gP, if on full load, would need 2.2A. These are not very common. This one would do on Amazon UK. There are a few on Amazon.de (with euro 2-pin plugs) which I personally would trust more than those on eBay . Ge...

Which WL500 is it gx or gP? You may be drawing too much current from the Asus if you have long ethernet cables and/or use wireless and/or have an ageing lumpy PSU casuing it to behave badly. Reduce the length of the ethernet cables (I use these ) which are long enough to connect my other gadgets to ...
