It's not often I give a sneak peak at what's to come in future firmwares; we all know there'll be an update to give the TF5800 Freeview Playback, but there are some other changes coming too, centred on improving some of the on-screen messages.

We'll look at Freeview Playback in more detail later, but for now, here's a news item where you can see some of the changes that have been made.

As ever, if I had a date, I'd let you know; I don't, so there's no need to ask for one!

Nigel.

on the 2nd picture down , presumably these timers have been made with the series record feature?

The problem I see (and saw it on that test firmware I recently tried) is the series record appears to look on all channels so you get a series record of the programme on ch4 and it's including the repeats on more4 and the +1 channel (in this instance)
Will there be a way to restrict it to looking for programmes only on one channel to avoid this?

The testers are busy giving feedback on Freeview Playback things, and I don't yet know how that feedback will turn into changes to the firmware - which is one reason why I decided to highlight some of the more subtle changes instead, for now.

Good to see that the new firmware will use proper English but what's the betting that a factory reset will still generayte 'system resetted'?!

Excellent work.

Love the white button, timer names and progress status.

I assume these new messages have been created by forum members. Thanks for your time and thanks to topfield for (eventually?) changing them.

Oh and thank christ we get the free space shown in MB too !

Rest assured, this will be an ongoing work; some of the messages might not have been updated if it's not been possible to see them in context. I'll pass on more updates as and when I spot things.

Nice summary, thanks Nigel. Any idea how easy it will be for TAPs to implement Freeview series link?

I fear I may have to "upgrade" from JAGs which my wife loves so much... Sad but maybe he can be persuaded to indulge us UK users if it isn't too hard...

Right but.... JAGs can also emulate this with Weekly, Weekdays, Daily recordings. I thought (assumed?) Series Link was more intelligent and allowed for late starts etc.?

No no no. Don't move from Jags if you like it !!!!

Series link isn't that great yet !

As you can see from my sig I am using both series link and jags.

Series link is very good for BBC3 recordings (as it will easily filter out the repeats)

I've just tried a very simple patch to make the timer filename appear where the service name does in the Timer Setting list (the LCN still shows). Any interest?

Of course there is an interest. Wink Please post it up.

When I saw you had posted, I thought it would be a patch to change the wording like the new firmware. I expect it's far too a simple patch for you to be bother with though.

That's exactly what I had in mind: a patch to do something like the "good" bits of 5.14.06. Smile
