I have created a new news index page, at http://www.toppy.org.uk/news.php

This can also be accessed via the More news link on the front page of the site, and shows all the news and announcement items from the last 30 days, rather than just the highlights that are shown on the front page of the site.

You will also find a news story, confirming the shipping of TF5800s with the Samsung Spinpoint drives, with a few more snippets to follow over the next week or so.

Nigel.

Thanks, Nigel, a very useful addition to an already excellent site. It will now be much easier to locate the latest news on Toppies.

Tell me something though:

Is there an embargo date on this news, or are you just teasing us because you can? Wink

I don't have anything as formal as an embargo, but I do need to check some details before I make some information public and in some cases, like the Black Panther, I want to get my hands on a physical product before writing about it.

I could write something saying X is going to happen, without checking dates or availability first, but I'd much rather not do that. It would just end up with lots of people hassling Turbosat/Topfield/me, and I'd much rather make sure we don't go down that road - especially when, as can often be the case, there are unforseen delays.

So, patience, young Luke...

I fully understand.

After all, the experience of John Norton on the DS Inverto thread more than proves the point.

And in our never ending quest to provide even more lovely things for site users, those who have suitable web browsers (that's not Internet Explorer...) will find a couple of new features this evening.

Nigel,
Just caught up on the weekend posts as wife's birthday meant I was banned from PC.
You have got me all excited with your suggestions of forthcoming news. I have one of the 1st boxes to have the May firmware pre-installed (and the spinpoint), so have never needed to readup about updating the firmware.
Do you think that it would be worth me having a bit of a read throught the guides etc to be up to speed or do you not foresee me needing to have this background knowledge?
Cheers,
Mark

Now, that's a very cunning way of trying work out if the news is about a software update or something else.

However, while cunning, it's also totally transparent.

So I'm not going to answer it Wink

You foiled my cunning plan. Baldrick will have to come up with some new ideas! Smile
Never mind I'll read up on firmware, just in case Wink

Ok, I'm either blind or very unobservant as I can't see any difference on Mozilla.

I'm not sure about Mozilla; bloated heap of junk last time I tried to run it...

But if you're using Safari or Opera, you will notice an RSS feed on the forum, for new topics, and one on the front page, for the news section.

I won't post the links just yet (but people can PM me if they really want to try), since I'd rather they're picked up slowly, and I can keep an eye on the effect that RSS has on the server load.

A couple of tweaks have been made to the RSS feed; it should now be more acceptable to the pickier browsers, and I've made a few steps towards RSS 2 compatibility, which will enable us to provide enclosures, such as new guides and other handy downloads, for those who would like to grab such things automatically.
