So does that mean you know how to fix it without disabling the copy feature ?
No, it means they might need to do the same thing, but for a different reason (so still no copying, although with no choice in the matter). But we'll have to wait and see.

R2 I know you know more about patching the Toppy than I, and I am sure I am teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, but a trick I used back in my mainframe days when an overlay patch was too big was to simply branch elsewhere and then back again. Of course you need a safe place to stick the patch.

Preferably somewhere that stays visible for the duration of the execution of the patch code. Wink

Jumping to random bits of memory is possible, but not something that's easy to do using a patch. It's usually the technique used for hooks (e.g. RemoteExtender) where the random bit of memory is actually the TAP's code. The one reasonable, static area of memory between firmwares (and models) that could be used is the boot section before the exception handler, although that's complicated by the fact that (a) it's already used by DeadBeef's StartupAccelerator, and (b) this area of memory is (ordinarily) cleared after booting.

So I take it that [Xw] and [Xp] are both working well enough for everyone? I'm holding on to a [M0] patch that makes the main service prefer Tuner0, but the CYR configuration that helps with is rather rare -- I've not seen it in normal usage.

I've not had any CYR's since installing the patches, although I have to say that most of the programme combinations that used to invoke it aren't on at the moment.

The patches are working for me so far, but that amounts to onlly two instances where I might have expected an interruption.

Yes it's working very well thank you very much Cool

I've only had 3 CYR's since installing them. 2 of which I have reported in this thread.

This is a massive improvement to what I used to suffer from.

I'm sorry to say I still haven't got round to upgrading to the latest versions. I'm intending to, and have a go with your ITV4/BBC/PIP patch.

No side effects seen. So I guess we can call this closed for now. Unless anything else comes to light.

Thanks again for this massive improvement to the toppy. Wink

No problems here, I know under certain circumstances I will still get one, but not seen one so far, before I was getting them quite a lot.

Thanks very much for these great patches. Very Happy

I've had no CYRs or interruptions of playback since installing both patches, and I previously used to have one every day or two. These were mostly CYR-less interruptions while playing back completed recordings, as I don't use chaseplay much. I've started using it a bit more now that I know I'm not going to be interrupted. (There's still the momentary interruption when the chased recording ends, but I try to make sure the recording is long enough so that won't happen.)

I think this is a really good patch pair. They address a problem that is obvious to even completely non technical users. I would like to see them premoted to the "essential patches" section when they have had a chance to mature.

Thanks R2-D2

I've not seen the CYR since patching, and I used to see it every day or two.

Fantastic work, many thanks R2. I really don't know how topfield would ever have sold these devices if people like R2 and BobD hadn't put so much work into making them useable.

H.

What is the difference between [C0] and the [Xp][Xw] pair?

C0 takes away the CYR box by defaulting to the standard response, Xp/Xw actually try to fix the problem so you don't see the box in the first place!!

So I want [Xp][Xw] and not [C0]?
