I've finally got around to updating the original timer patch to include the latest concepts and hopefully prevent missed recordings due to the Toppy not waking up. This patch is hand-crafted for each firmware version, but that allows it to be a little bit more complete than DeadBeef's generic TimerPatch V4. In particular, it handles the zero timers case properly (and this is the only time the timer deletion message is sent to the FP). It also maintains the difference between wakeup and record timers. Plus, a seemingly spurious call to get the current time is retained.

You can get the patch here: TimerPatchT2b.tfp. You need FireBird's FWPatcher, as usual. The patch file includes versions for the TF5800 firmwares:
  • 5.13.65 (beta -- latest)
  • 5.13.59 (beta -- more MHEG fixes)
  • 5.13.56 (latest official)
  • 5.13.55 (beta -- with MHEG fixes)
  • 5.13.40 (Fab.40)
  • 5.13.26 (version shipped on newer Toppy)
  • 5.12.99 (beta -- Bastille for newer tuner Toppys)
  • 5.12.88 (Bastille)
  • 5.12.25 (lots of memory?)
And the following other Toppy models:
  • TF5700 (Sys 2426) 3.00
  • TF5700 (Sys 2426) 2.241
  • TF5700HDMI (Sys 13426) 3.00
  • TF5700HDMI (Sys 13426) 2.84

Please note that this only fixes the sending of timer messages to the FP -- it cannot prevent missed recordings due to a crashed Toppy.

Which version of Deadbeef's patch is this based on? Is it based on the latest V4 of his patch?

thanks

Andy

It's a bit confusing, isn't it? This new patch is based on my original patch which is available in the members' area as the PHT2a firmware. DeadBeef managed to adapt this into a generic patch for a lot of Toppy firmwares (TimerPatch V3) and then finally the timer deletion messages were dumped completely (TimerPatch V4). Due to the limitations of a generic patch (using FWPatcher), there are some necessary shortcuts taken in DeadBeef's TimerPatch V4. The differences are as noted above -- basically, this patch retains the original Toppy behaviour as much as possible, except for sending just a single timer message to the FP at all times.

Thanks for the reply r2-d2. So basically anyone with the tf5800 should use this specific patch instead of the Generic patches to ensure relability on our toppys? Am i right in this assumption.

Thanks

Andy

I probably wouldn't go as far as "should". There's nothing wrong with TimerPatch V4, just some small differences as noted above, so it's your choice.

Good point. I'll update the first post, but the latest version can be found here.

Don't suppose you could update this patch to include 5.13.26? I know that that there are some people that don't advise on using this firmware because Topfield circumvented the test team and released it themselves, but after major problems with 5.13.39 and 5.13.40 I have consistently found this firmware to be the most stable of them all.

Whay don't you patch it yourself? Timer Patch 4 is the one you want found here with the latest patcher and all other patches. I've been on .26 for a long time and, for me, it's been rock solid.

Absolutely. I've just updated the patch, but at the moment there seem to be problems logging into my web space (as happens every now and then) so I can't update the file. If you're desperate, PM your email address and I can send it to you.

R2-D2's patch is more TF5800-centric.

@R2-D2

Help! We need an update for 5.13.59, as FWPatcher won't accept it.

Geoff
