What EPG Extended Memory patch?

I know nothing of these things of which you speak...

Nigel.

It's being talked about over on the German forum.

If Google has translated things correctly...

"This Patch reduces the reserved range for the extended EPG data of 3MB to 1MB. It functions only for the firmware indicated above!!"

(Quite why one would want to reduce the amount of memory for extended information is beyond me.)

Which firmware is it for?

I suppose, if you don't have extended info and want to run lots of memory-hungry TAPs (like Jag's), then you may find it useful to grab some of that back.

Nigel.

Here's a link to the relevent part of the thread (although this particular patch first makes its appearance on page 4 of the thread). It seems it's limited to the TF5000PVR / TF5500PVR models (firmware dated 03/01/07).

I see what you mean about TAPs using the extra memory to store their own EPG - I use mei2eit so that hadn't occurred to me.

Hi,

The Google translation in the 3th post is fairly accurate.

The patch is also compatible with the December 26 beta, as far as I know that one is exactly the same for the 5x00 as for the 5800 (it was first released on the German board with a wildcard ID)
So you could give it a try, please make sure you also use the latest FW patcher.

I'm also running mei2eit and haven't seen any difference in the number of data (days) I can load with or without the patch, so running this patch gives you 2MB extra memory without losing functionality.

Hi,

I use RT data with MyStuff so the OTA data is only used for Improbox N&N.

Will this patch give me more memory without any loss in functionality?

(and can it be run on Bastille?)

Thanks

Ian

No the patch is only compatible with December beta and the latest FW for the 5000/5500. You could try to send the developmer http://www.topfield-europe.com/forum/member.php?u=276 a message maby he/she is willing to ad support for it.

If you're using rt2mei, and then you're loading data into the Toppy's memory with something like mei2eit, and if you have extended descriptions, then patch the firmware to reduce the memory in which those descriptions are stored, then I expect you'll find that you don't have all the extended descriptions you wanted.

If you just use the MEI data on its own, and don't want to store it in the Toppy's memory, then there may be some value in this.

Nigel.

That is exactly what I as expecting, and hoping for. But with the new unpatched (3MB MB memory) I can't load any more days Extended EPG data than with he old FW which had only 0,5MB .

I tried it with EPGUploader and mei2eit, maybe these TAP's don't use the extended EPG memory?

The amount of memory used depends on both the number of days and the number of channels. ISTR on your TF5000 you are loading a small number of UK channels, so won't need as much memory as a TF5800 user loading all the UK channels.

As a rough guide check the size of the MyStuff.mei. Today mine is 3,226,097 bytes for a full set of UK channels. That covers the next two weeks but as the current TF5800 firmware only lets you load a week ahead only half that will be loaded. Allowing for a bit of a safety margin I probably need 2 MB. If your MyStuff.mei is smaller you will need less.

Hi DX,

Today my MyStuff.mei is 1.503.232 bytes, 7 days for 27 channels (10 dutch and 17 uk) but still I can only load 1 day data even with the unpatched 3MB FW Question

Hi,

Mine is 2.8MB for 14 days and 37 channels (all the free ones I think).
