Hi, long time reader first time poster Smile

I've generally managed to get on fine with the Toppy and all the cool Taps until I hit a weird issue with my MEI data using Bawbagg's MEI tool and XMLTV GUI..

Weekly updates were working great until this week when the XMLTV GUI app crashed during the XMLTV Grabbing portion of the update. I took a look around and found a newer version of XMLTV GUI which corrected the bug.. so a quick install of that and the latest version of MEI (V0.48 ) got the process up and running again, except MEI doesn't seem to be converting all of the XML data in the grabbed file anymore..

The Data.xml generated by XMLTV GUI weighs in around 5Mb and a trawl through the XML itself reveals that it *has* brought down all the info for my selected channels... however the Mystuff.MEI that's created from it is only about 1MB in size and only seems to contain info for BBC1 through 4 and a couple of other channels.. The MEI.INI file also contains entries for all of my selected channels, but I'm at a loss to understand why only a fraction of the file is being converted from XML to MEI..

I know there's also RT2MEI as an alternative, but I've had the XMLTV GUI/MEI solution working great and was hoping someone could shed some light on my problem (SWMBO would be chuffed to have the Toppy working fine and dandy again) Smile

(Am running Mystuff 4.54d, and 5.12.25 firmware - everything else has been rock solid.. )

Any and all help appreciated please... Neutral

I'd like you to email me your MEI.ini file, and your data.xml file.

I'll step it through the MEI code, and see if something is causing it to fall out.

I've PM'd you an email address.

Cheers,

BB

Sounds like there could be something different in the xml files generated by the latest very of xmltv gui.

I'll have a look.

All rec'd. I had a quick look this afternoon using a fresh download of my own after installing the latest XMLTV GUI. Something fishy going on - but I didn't have time to put my finger on it.

I'm pretty busy with work at the mo, but I'll get onto it ASAP.

Cheers,

BB

Similar problem . . .

I've been running MEI 0.45 with XMLTV Radio Times Grabber 2.2 for several months now with essentially no problems. This morning I did my weekly grab. I use XMLTV EPG Viewer on my PC to check for a full set of data (I used to sometimes only get a few days grabbed). This said there was a problem with the Data.XML file at line 39556. I ignored the warning and loaded the MEI file to the Toppy. Result a lot of missing data in the EPG.

After upgrading to MEI 0.48 with the same rersult, I looked at the XML file and sure enough there seemed to be problems with the XML for channel 1961 (ITV4). I deleted 1961 from Userchannels.txt and reran. No problems when looked at through XMLTV EPG Viewer, though I haven't tried loading the MEI file to the Toppy.

Seems like a problem with RadioTimes source data that XMLTV Radio Times Grabber is not catching. Hopefully it'll get corrected in a day or so.

Many thanks johnl - you provided me with the impetice to take this forward and complete the investigation.

There are 2 illegal characters in the current RadioTimes file for ITV4 (null characters in positions 40D3 and 40D4 if anyone is interested). They are causing XMLTV GUI to generate an xml file with a hiccup.

As xml has a very tight structure, my MEI app is getting to the hiccup, and just finishing there (actually - it's not even my MEI app, it's the xml reading library I use from chilkat that's just giving in). Hence the truncated mei file.

All should be cool if you temporarily remove ITV4 from your grab (unless there are errors in other RT files too Sad ). Maybe someone will spot when it's sorted, and can post the all clear in this thread Smile.

The RT site was fairly erratic this evening, so they could be having a number of problems.

Anyway.... glad it's not my app! No upgrade/change necessary. I have posted on birty's own forums - he may or may not post a fix.

Cheers,

BB

Alternatively, you could open your .xml file in a decent text editor, search for

Generation X treatment of Are You Being Served?.ngth>
and replace the .ngth> at the end with
Quote:
</desc>

That should fix things, if you absolutely want to have ITV4 in your listing.

Cool! Thanks mate..

FYI I tried RT2MEI as a backup process shortly after and everything went through fine - if the RT data is the same source for both apps why is it working with one and not the other (or is it that the RT2MEI method ignores the errors and generates a flawed MEI file regardless?)

You must have just been lucky. The RT site has been up and down like a yoyo recently. If you check the rt2mei thread, you'll see that folks there had problems too - however as most folks have rt2mei running automated on a slug/asus, it was able to keep trying until it got a connection.

All should be back to normal now anyway (at least until the RT site borks agains Laughing).
