MEI folder - this contains a file for every recording you have containing the description, title etc.

If I was to rename a file or folder or move a file using either another TAP or the Toppy's basic archive, does this cause difficulties with this secondary index?

I would be interested to see a description of what is actually stored in these files. Is there one available or can I just go and look at an example or two to get an understanding?

I will have to defer to Bob for that, but I can tell you there is no info on this, even the list I just made up on files is completely new (although I might put it in the manual at some point). Have a look at a .mei file and you will see what it contains, it's baiscally a text file so open it in Notepad.

Anyway, why are you using the Toppy UI anyway, didn't you know it's banned? Laughing

Nope. Renaming/moving files makes no difference to the name or content of the mei file, so MyStuff would still pick up the correct info. If you delete a recording (from another tap or the toppy) MyStuff will delete the mei file a bit later.

They just hold a subset of the data from the MyStuff.mei file for that recording. Cant remember the exact format off the top of my head.

Control Timers are one of my favourite features in MyStuff, but can I ask for a change to the way they initially set up?

A new CT is always created with certain default values, such as Channel = All (No +1s), Day = All Days, Start Time = 00.00 and End Time = 00.00.

Personally, I find these defaults are never appropriate, so I always have to edit them. So my suggested enhancement is as follows...

Default values on creating a new CT (via the EPG):-

Channel = The channel in the EPG on which the programme is listed.
Day = The day in the EPG on which the programme is listed.
Start Time = -2 hours from the EPG listed programme start time.
End Time = +2 hours from the EPG listed programme end time.

Of course, the icing on the cake would be for the defaults to be configurable in the menu!

What do other MyStuff users feel about this suggestion?

Geoff

Dear MS team,

I noticed the "CT searches will no longer try to set timers that clash with current recordings" item in the change log for 4.52.

Does this mean that the 4.51 issue of getting a clash on back to back recordings is also fixed, or is that something different?

Ta very much,

Geoff; when you set a CT from the EPG I thought the default was the current channel; which is of course logical as you say.

I had been considering requesting this enhancement to CTs myself. I would vote for 'user configured CT defaults' as i usually change the CT to the individual channel, and as most of my recordings take place in the evening, i usually change the start window time to 18:00 to avoid afternoon repeats.

I think those new defaults would be excellent. It would require getting the times and channel from the currently selected EPG item but that could be possible.

Nope, it definitely creates a new CT with ALL (No +1s) for the channel (I've just been and double checked it). The only CT I have which requires anything other than the current channel is 'Countryfile' which occasionally moves from BBC1 to BBC2 on Sunday.

Geoff; got it you are using Automatic Mode with the Slow key; I am using Manual Mode by pressing record twice.

In fact I think I remember deciding not to use auto when CTs came out because the search was too wide.

Correct, I always use the Slow key. In fact, I'd forgotten you can create a CT manually, although it seems a bit more long-winded. Perhaps not though, seeing as I have to change so many variables using the Slow key method... I'll give it a try.
