Totally agree with Traxmaster. To get the product in the promised timeframe was unusual but to get new firmware so fast and on time again is almost unheard of. This is fantastic service from Topfield.
I have applied the new firmware (benefit of being off sick today) and it was really easy with the guides from this site - thanks Nigel.
Everything seems to be working well and I look forward to no more blank screens on recordings from Timeshifted channels.
As I had my Toppy connected to my PC for the first time I thought I would be brave and try a couple of TAPs as well and this was easy too. JAG's EPG is working well and whilst it doesn't look quite as nice as the standard EPG it has much better functions and is much better for not changing channels in the EPG.
The Toppy is even more the FreeView PVR to beat now.

Absolutely,

Please bear in mind that their engineer/s was probably still up at 10pm+ Korean time (when the update was posted) which is above and beyond in my opinion. We should all add a vote of thanks to the thread that matt started so that perhaps it can be emailed to Topfield in due course.

For the record: as predicted elsewhere in these forums my attempt to up-grade running VPC failed (by the time that the USB device is recognised the Toppy has booted). Happily for me I also have access to a friend's PC and all went well.

My attempt to upgrade the firmware failed.

These are the steps I took:
1. Install Altair and TFDN USB
2. Connect USB cable to Toppy
3. Open Altair and check it can see the Toppy's file structure
4. Turn Toppy on to standby
5. Open TFDN USB and select new firmware
6. Click Download (shows Wait Download)
7. Turn Toppy on

At this stage, the toppy showed the C4.56 message and turned on. The Wait Download message remained.

Did I do anything wrong? I am using Windows XP with USB 1.1 port.

Thanks
Phil

That sounds pretty much ok; I can't recall if the C456 message even appeared briefly, though - the update happened so quickly.

You don't still have Altair running do you? Or any other program that might be doing anything untoward with the USB port?

Nigel.

C456 does appear, before the download starts.

All credit to the engineers for releasing this update exactly when they said they would.

I initially made the same mistake as you pdc00, and started to panic!

Correct. However there *are* a lot of people who don't have access to a *windows* PC. Myself for instance. The only way I can/will run win is through VPC

Alas, running XP Pro SR2 under VPC 7 under Tiger on my venerable Ti PowerBook was too slow for the Toppy boot sequence. It would be very interesting to know if a more modern Mac would make the difference. (I didn't get to check this as a friend's PC provided a more immediate solution.)

I've still got the interim firmware on my Toppy, since I've not had time to update it. I did that update using genuine Windows to write the guide (over 300 downloads - I didn't realise there were so many Toppy owners out there already!).

I'm waiting for delivery of a brand new 15inch PowerBook this week, and have VPC ready to install on it. I'll see if I can do the upgrade with that.

Nigel.

Just a quick word of warning: I found that my Toppy wouldn't respond to the remote controls after upgrading the firmware. This turned out to be the Program Manager suite of TAPs. Removing them restored normal service!
