I think someone mentioned this problem before, but I am getting strange display behaviour with this TAP (v 0.05 and earlier).

Every screen displayed is displayed several times overlaying itself at different positions on the screen, making it impossible to read what is going on.

The first few times I used the TAP this didn't happen, then teh TAP caused the Toppy to crash and now, every time I have this display problem. Wierd!

Yup - thats exactly the same as my symptoms - wondering if its a TAP interaction?

rwg,

interesting tap - this type of approach begins to open up the possibilities. I too look forward to its completion, and to more like it.
It would be nice though not to have to spend so much time fighting the crap underlying firmware code ...

I've been seeing the same issues - hangs everytime on selecting 'Film'.

Should there be an meisearch.ini file somewhere?

I can't see one with 004 at present.

Sorry to say that 0.5 still crashes when you use the Film category search.

Hi all

Loaded vers 0.03 - seems to load EPG data ok but when returning results from a search I get 6 or so "cascaded" (to use windows words) versions of the same result.

Then I have to press exit a couple of times to get rid of bits of display when exiting.

Any ideas anyone?

Hutchy, I don't quite understand what you mean by cascaded - is it something like...

If you're still getting problems with it crashing after loading the EPG with 0.05, please PM your MEI file to me, along with the date & time at which it was broken (when loading the MEI it discards programs that have finished, so the date/time could be important)

cheers

bdb,

thanks for all the info - I will try to work out what's going on. The crashing on menu looks easier as it seems likely it's a mistake parsing the MEI. Still unsure about why it crashes on going to the film page - it's finished all the scary bits like searching, sorting, etc, so it must be in the display. At least the fact that it's still happening rules out the line-wrapping code.

back to the drawing board, but unlikely to fix it tonight I think Sad

Robin

Ah, but I was lucky and I found at least one bug straight away...

bdb's second bug (while loading data) was a problem with only 1 event in a channel, fixed in 0.06.

I still can't reproduce the crash on going to film, even with bdb's first meistuff.mei file. I will put more logging into 0.07 tomorrow sometime.

0.06 changes:

* fix crash on loading guide data with only 1 epg event in a channel
* remove 'List' as an option for activation key, since it didn't work. It'll be back

download from http://meisearch.go.dyndns.org/MeiSearch_006.tap since my other download site seems to be dead at the moment.

Robin

ps. ini file only appeared with 0.05 to store which key activates searching

Hi Robin,

Can't believe how quickly you're turning this stuff around! "Cascading" was exactly as you described, good news is it was fixed by vers 0.05.

I'm getting intermittant crashing on film search though ... so will fire up v0.06 soon.

I agree with the other comments - you deserve a drink!

I'm also getting lock-ups with 06 when I select film. Then the Toppy only responds to Standby, but the first press gives a single dot on the front panel, and a second is needed to get the clock back. Never noticed that before. Let me know if you want me to e-mail my ".mei" file.

Otherwise a great TAP - I have already found a couple of programmes of interest that I would have probably missed otherwise.

I have a theory that the only difference between films (which crash) and episodes (which don't) is the adding of stars to the films title, so I've put some more careful guards around that and put some logging in too to see if we can finally nail the film crash...

Robin

v0.07 from http://meisearch.go.dyndns.org/MeiSearch_007.tap

Changes:

More guards against possibly silly numbers of stars on film listings

Fix a bug which was allowing programs already finished to show up in the lists

Comes up on TAP list as vers 0.06? Same file size as 0.06?

... and same crash! Wink

Crying or Very sad

lets go for

v0.08 from http://meisearch.go.dyndns.org/MeiSearch_008.tap

Robin

* put the headers back on the films page
* lots of logging when showing the films page - a serial dump of what leads up to the crash would be helpful!

still no joy ...

if I run with a single entry in Meistuff.ini, it no longer crashes, but just seems to ignore the entry completely - genre list is blank.

if I run with this (2 entry) Meistuff.ini
Code:

There is a class-conscious desperation about the samurai hero, Hiroyuki Sanada, which makes the setting of the 19th century even more credible. Sanada holds a lowly position within his clan, and he's nicknamed Twilight Samurai (Tasogare Seibei) because he doesn't join them for after-work drinks, but heads home to look after his motherless daughters and their elderly grandmother. Then Rie Miyazawa, his childhood sweetheart, begins to visit their home, brightening up their poverty-stricken existence. But when her brutish husband comes looking for her, Sanada is forced to defend her honour. Fulfilling the humanist tradition of many Japanese masters, Yamada's film looks into the hearts of the men wielding the lethal weapons, and so achieves an inspirational quality.|Film|130||||||||4

it hangs when I select 'Film'
Note that all your new debug info seems to occur when it loads the Meistuff.ini file, and not when it hangs. It does not crash - just hangs, leaving the genre dialog box active, tv still playing, but unwilling to respond to anything except 'off'.
