I know that you can connect a video or dvd player to the toppy and the signal is played through the toppy to the tv. But can you record onto the toppy from an external source like a vcr? Since getting the toppy the vcr has not been connected and is in the cupboard under the stairs. I have couple of very old videos that you cannot get on DVD and would like to copy them to the toppy if I can.
I was also thinking of getting a DVD recorder, can you archive stuff from the toppy straight onto a dvd recorder?

You cannot record on to the Toppy from external sources. There's only one PVR available at present that does that - the Tivo.

You will need to digitise your videos on your PC, and transfer them to the Toppy from there.

Alternatively, if you have a DVD recorder, just use that to make DVDs from them. You can then squirt the DVDs down the USB port to the Toppy.

If the DVD recorder can record from SCART, then it can be used to archive material from the Toppy. Just plug it into the VCR socket on the back.

I'll add parts of this to the site FAQs later today.

Nigel.
