Hi,

a beta version of the new ChannelRemover TAP is available for download. It has been tested with only one 5800, so maybe more experienced users should try it out first and report if everything works as expected. Because this TAP modifies the contents of the memory and bypasses the Topfield API, you have to reboot your Toppy after the TAP has modified the channel list.

What it does:

* asks the user if it should remove all pay TV channels
* removes the channels whose LCNs or names are in the file "ChannelRemoverLCN.txt". The channel names are not case sensitive but wildcards are not supported. A sample file is included in the ZIP. In this version, every line has to be terminated with a CR/LF. Unix like LF-only will be added in the next version.

What it does not:

* It doesn't remove any timers/favourites. If ChannelRemover removes a service with a timer/favourite, this timer/favourite will point to a random service.

I've also included a self-made dump utility, which copies your settings into a tfd file. If something goes wrong, then you can upload the tfd as you would do a firmware update and your settings are restored. The backup is created by turning off the Topfield, starting ToppyDump.exe and turn on the Toppy as soon as the message "Waiting for USB interface" is displayed.

Special thanks to SimonC for providing a flash dump from his 5800 and for doing the initial beta testing.

Regards, Alex

Hi FireBird,

Is it OK that I copy copies of your TAPs under TAPWorld (http://tapworld.eu.tt)?

I would like to have copies there because Trizzi won't like me to make direct links to files under his site.

Please let me know here or email tapworld@gmail.com if that is ok or not ok (if not ok, I will remove copies of your TAPs).

Thanks,
TAPWorld admin

Most useful - will try out.

One thing that would be exceptionally useful would be
for it to run through the channels and on finding two of the same then to remove the one with the lowest quality signal. in this case the LCN and the name are the same - but two entries....

This is caused by picking up two transmitters which happens to a lot of us. ideally this to work across radio and tv....

Do you know if it does this?

(as would certainly remove the pain of a rescan!)

Hi,

as emailed some time ago, I'm happy if you host my TAPs. In this particular case, I would like to have some positive feedback before making it official. While I?m optimistic, this TAP is very low level stuff and it is possible that it might fail on too many machines.

Regards, Alex

Hi Mark,

a quick check of the TAP API didn't reveal any no-go. I'll put it on my list.

Simon told me about that issue last Friday. 4 evenings were just too short to analyze the contents of the flash and to write the TAP.

Hi there,

I'm just about to have a go at this, just one question first...

the .exe file in the TAP, how do I use it if it all goes pear-shaped ?!

do I have to backup before using it or is this automatic??

Will feedback after SHMBO finishes watching 'What Not To Wear' Wink

Cheers

The exe will download the settings from your Toppy and save them on your PC.

* Turn off your Toppy
* Start the exe
* Turn on the Toppy

Thereafter you should find a file called "Dump_<actual date>.tfd" on your PC. If something messes your settings, then use TFDN_USB to upload the dump to your Toppy.

Hi Alex,

here is my report Very Happy

firstly, make sure you have Tfdll.dll in your system path or Toppydump.exe will not work!

secondly, it seems to work perfectly!

I rescanned MUX2 to get ITV4 and then tried to delete Quizcall and channel 8. I set up my .txt deletion file, ran the TAP and it just worked Very Happy

This will really help for the next firmware upgrade,

Thanks for a great TAP

Chunkywizard

Good show old chap!

I tried it several times this evening:

First run just deleted the PayTV channels. It got rid of itv4 (which I believe will be FTA or FTV) and it did not get rid of Bloomberg which IS pay tv. Otherwise great.

Then I used the file to delete a few channels using the file using channel names. All OK!

Finally after a full rescan I did my ultimate cleanup and that went fine. I had all my TAPs running all the time.

Thanks again. Great relief not to have to suffer thumbitis anymore.

Thanks for playing around. Did Bloomberg have the $ sign in the channel list?
