I don't believe it failed to load - he just could it see it with Altair

OK - but I can't understand how a manual load fails (for me) and TM succeeds (for him).

Maybe the OP needs to try a manual download and report what happens.

So you advocate ignoring security warnings about files, most odd.

I didn't say that, I use different SMARTER software that doesn't mark files as suspect just because they don't get downloaded at lot

Quote:
If a file you are about to download is known by SmartScreen to be downloaded by a reasonably large number of people and considered to be safe, it lets you download it without any warnings. If a file has not been downloaded much by others or, a small number of people downloaded it, then it warns that it might not be a safe thing to do.

So why are you ignoring these other checks?

Quote:
SmartScreen helps protect you in three ways:
•As you browse the web, it analyzes pages and determines if they might be suspicious. If it finds suspicious pages, SmartScreen will display a warning page, giving you an opportunity to provide feedback and advising you to continue with caution.
•SmartScreen checks the sites you visit against a dynamic list of reported phishing sites and malicious software sites. If it finds a match, SmartScreen will show you a warning letting you know that the site has been blocked for your safety.
•SmartScreen checks files that you download from the web against a list of reported malicious software sites and programs known to be unsafe. If it finds a match, SmartScreen will warn you that the download has been blocked for your safety. SmartScreen also checks the files that you download against a list of files that are well known and downloaded by many people who use Internet Explorer. If the file that you're downloading isn't on that list, SmartScreen will warn you.

I'm not ignoring any checks, I don't have those checks because I don't use (or have installed) Smartscreen.
I use Avast antivirus and Malwarebytes to provide my security.
Neither of these find anything suspicious about the files and allow me to download and use them.
Just because Smartscreen finds them suspicious doesn't make it so, equally the reverse is true, Avast and Malwarebytes could be wrong. I find I use software I trust, based on experience and recommendation and I've used those 2 programs successfully for many years.
You trust Smartscreen, that's fine, but because it flags the file as suspicious doesn't mean it is or that there is a problem with it, that's all I'm saying Smile

There is a suggestion that file access is the only one used, though.

Try doing a domain health check, it doesn't pass with flying colours.

Who knows what's right or wrong?

GeeCeeBee.co.uk is hosted by google sites; I have no control over how google sites manages the domain settings. The only control I have over the site is it's content and the fact that I have paid for my own name instead of using a googlesites generated one.

Please feel free not to use the site of you don't want to use what it provides!

Anyone needing iimmediate access to channel changes can edit the Freeview.dat using the information that CO stores on the disk

Please elaborate where this information is stored.

Well Christmas is well and truly over so I'm back on the Freeview.dat message.

1) Does it matter if CO says Freeview.dat is out of date? ie what difference does it make to the Toppy's operation

2) If I want to manually correct Freeview.dat can someone point me to what I have to do as per question above?

I still get a message that Freeview.dat is out of date:

// Errors in 'Freeview.dat' detected by Channel Organiser B2.1 on 21/2/2019 at 11:48
// These will cause problems with status display, config files, and/or future LCN changes

SvcId for line starting: LCN=33 should be changed to 8362
SvcId for line starting: LCN=731 should be changed to 22848
Mux name is apparently wrong for LCN 731 - it should be COM5

// Based of version of 'Freeview.dat' last updated at 14:37 on 10/01/2019

Is this all due to MUX musical chairs?
If I don't need to worry I will stop being concerned.

The critical file is FvTxData.tsv

If the mux's for your transmitter still correspond to the values in FvTxData.tsv then all is well.

eg Belmont.....

Code:
Yorkshire   Belmont      22   25   30    53   60

Freeview.dat maps channel numbers to their actual names, plus other details.

eg lcn 1

Code:
LCN=1   Name=BBC ONE~   SvcId=-1   RtCode=92   Type=TV   Mux=PSB1   HasEpg=1   FpdName=bbc1   StartTime=0000   EndTime=0000   Content=Entertainment

If your epg isn't showing the correct channel names, edit Freeview.dat, or leave well alone.

[edit] It's probably nothing to do with FxTxData.tsv; it is just that the broadcasters are shuffling around the channels and/or adding new ones.[/edit]

Run TopManager - it will tell you if there is a more recent version of Freeview.dat and/or FvTxdata.tsv (use Tools| Install Files if there is).

Freeview.dat will always be out of date; press the TXT key in Channel Organiser to see what it says (or, if too large, use TM| Connection| Browse, click on Logs and click on the file that CO mentions)
If you are not interested in the channels that CO is complaining about then you can ignore updating Freeview.dat.; if you do need to update it, select the file using TM |Connection| Browse| Settings and select Edit from top menu)

I did that in the post just above and the posted output informs which Freeview.dat was used.

I still don't know:

i) How does any problem manifest itself
ii) How to fix it if it does.

Thanks.

Thanks:

"Most likely transmitter: Waltham

There are currently no technical changes to Freeview TV signals in your area that require a retune."

Still doesn't help me understand what Freeview.dat is doing and why CO says its out of date.

These questions have already been answered.

Freeview.dat is hardly ever up to date because changes to freeview are happening on a fairly regularly basis.
The version you're using is 5 weeks old, and since then Classic FM has moved channels and mux, as CO has reported.
If you don't use that channel, or others that may get reported, there's nothing you need do.

That link I posted has details of when significant changes are likely to happen under "Other upcoming retune dates."

You are crediting me with more understanding than I have.

The error report gives me for instance:

SvcId for line starting: LCN=33 should be changed to 8362

What is SvcID
According to http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/channels/channel_listings
LCN 33 is ITV+1

On my Toppy if I press 33 I get ITV+1.
So why should I change it to 8362? Where did 8362 come from because it's way off the scale of LCN numbers that I can find?

The page https://www.freeview.co.uk/tvchanges/clearance-results has no items for January - March 2020.
