By clean up, I meant delete recordings.

Depends what the channels are - they might have exclusions in the EPG2MEI files (but unlikely if lots of channels are affected).

Try using TopManager | Tools| Check MyStuff and "Compare Epg2MEI and Extend.Ini"

On one of the affected channels, try accessing the native EPG to see if that is populated (Select the channel, press > between << and >> and then press EPG )

There isn't anything in ProgramFiles that is "good to delete" - it is the recordings that are taking up the space. I'm also not sure whether auto filing into subfolders helps performance - it should but it might mean that MyStuff is accessing lots of directories rather than just one.

Geoff

Geoff

I use that option all the time:
260 recordings (244 GB) + 2 deleted (1 GB) in 37 folders (+ 1 empty folders)
I don't see any detrimental effects from it. I currently only have 44 channels.

I'm really taking about a 1000 recordings spread across multiple folders.
Although he only has 4 times more recordings than you, this could be very significant if BobD hasn't chosen an appropriate algorithm (remember, MS was designed when one could never get anywhere near this number)

An example of a poor algorithm, and I'm only surmising because I haven't seen the code, is MS startup where it scans all the recording headers to match them against RecordedInfo.dat. My experience, with my TDM program, is that when there is a large number of "discovered" recordings, MS takes a great deal of time (hours) to recreate/update a missing RecordedInfo.dat file. I don't know exactly how long because I've never waited long enough for it to complete - it just looks like the toppy has hung. My guess is that, MS is rewriting the file each time a recorded is added to it (that is the only reason I can think of for the time taken).

So it could be that when MS is processing a recording start, it might be looking in multiple folders to locate the recordings. This could be a load of cobblers (I did say "I wasn't sure").

You could well be correct, definitely sounds perfectly plausible/likely, we tend to forget the original HDD sizes were only 160/250Gb

Thanks again Geoff for all your helpful suggestions.

Following your suggestion, I checked, and discovered that the EPG information IS present in the default Toppy EPG - just not in the MyStuff EPG. What could this mean?

This means that there is EPG information, it is being collected properly (i.e. PruneEPG is not discarding it) and that the problem lies with EPG2MEI or it's interface with MS (EPG2MEI tells MS when new info is available - having said that, I understand that, in the absence of a message from EPG2MEI, MS will periodically look for the file)

Suggest you use TopManager Connect| Browse
1) check that EPG2MEI is still running by looking at the date on the \ProgramFiles\EPG.raw is recent (within last 20 to 25 minutes) Note: using .raw as the extension. If it is recent then it is running.
2) Click on Settings (either pane). Then click on EPG2MEI.ini to view it. Check that you don't have any exclusions for the affected channels.

Of necessary, please specify the numbers of the affected channels

Geoff
ps I'm assuming that the date is correct on the toppy!

How old is your Freeview.Dat file? That also has an effect on the data that is harvested for the EPG

The file has today's date, but the time is a few hours old, like when I first turned the box on this morning. I'm not sure if that's a problem?

There are a few [Restrict] channels, including a couple of the missing channels. But the vast majority of the missing channels aren't listed there. I removed the two channels that were listed but their EPG data didn't appear after a restart.

Also, I thought I'd try running Channel Organiser and see if that could sort out the mess, but every time I tried to run it, it crashed and the machine restarted, checking files.

So I think my Channel Organiser file may be corrupted from the faulty disk? I was going to re-download the tap copy it over fresh, but the link is broken! Do you, or anyone, happen to have a copy of Channel Organiser?

Edit: Oh… that site only has info, not the actual TAPs?

OK, I used Top Manager to install Channel Organiser etc, ran it, and the TAP ran perfectly this time.

I re-scanned, deleted channels, and edited favourites, just to make sure I'd been through all the stages. I was sure this would work... but it didn't! The same channels still have no data in MyStuff's EPG.

(Photo)

The channels not showing up are:

16 QVC
17 Really
22 Ideal World
23 Create and Craft
26 ITV Be
27 ITV2+1
32 Sony Movie Channel
34 ITV3+1
36 QVC Style
37 Quest
38 Quest Red
39 CBS Action
42 Travel Channel
46 Challenge
47 4Seven
48 Movies4Men
54 Five Select
61 True Entertainment
62 True Movies/True Christmas
63 Blaze
65 TBN
66 CBS Reality
79 Dave Ja Vu
81 Talking Pictures
201 CBBC
202 CBeebies
203 CITV
206 Pop
231 BBC News
232 BBC Parliament
233 Sky News
234 RT

The remaining (working) channels are:

Mux Ch 42: 20, 21, 30, 44, 57, 70, 80, 83
Mux Ch 45: 11, 12, 29, 40, 41, 43, 72
Mux Ch 51: 18, 19, 25, 31, 35, 71
Mux Ch 53: 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 13, 14, 15, 24, 28, 33, 73
Mux Ch 60: 1, 2, 9

It's curious to note that mux channel 53 has no missing channels at all! That surely can't be coincidence, but I don't know what the significance is.

Does the native epg have the same problem?
