I want to update my other 5800, but do I need to runz4t.exe again? ie is the driver on the computer or the 5800?

It's a pc driver, so no need to worry about z4t until Mr Gates decides to delete it again.

Thanks ccs, I thought so but wanted to check.

I thought that Mr Gates was too busy trying to inoculate and vaccinate the whole planet for every known disease, and those yet to be invented. Wink

Thanks for posting the MyInfo Log

It all looks fine apart from the patches; you are missing AbReSyTeXl (used by MyStuff)
Of these, you need Ab (Accurate bookmark), Re (RemExt); Xl (aXeL) is highly desirable.

This implies that, assuming you used the installer, you omitted to update the firmware.
Suggest you repeat the installation and say yes to changing the firmware.

You only have 2 recordings on the disk. This could be because you reformatted the disk (or it is a "new" disk) and started again or it could indicate that you have previously had a disk corruption and that you have reloaded the disk.
If the latter, this could indicate that you haven't had the capacitors replaced in the PSU (this can cause errors in the file system and/or kill the disk). Suggest you contact andyfras if you need the caps changed
Geoff

Thanks for that Geoff.

I thought that I had the latest firmware, but will redo the updates again choosing the 'install firmware' option.

I do have two 5800s. The one with just two recordings is recapped, and the other (that has a nearly full hard drive) is working fine, but I won't hesitate to recap if it shows signs of needing it.

Firmware looks fine.

If you don't use timeshift, I'd switch it off.

What does it do? I thought that I was time-shifting by recording programmes to watch later. Confused

Time shifting is rewinding a live program to an earlier point.

Suggest you leave enabled - I use this all the time and have never had problems.

Timeshift automatically records the channel you're currently tuned to, so you can rewind it back to when you tuned in (there's a limit to how far back you can go.)

This means your hd is constantly being written to.
(If the hd is not in use, it will automatically spin down after 5 minutes or so.)

I've never used it, preferring to record programmes, and watch them later, often before the recording has ended.

Infact, I would never recommend switching it on.

If the phone rings, say, you can always press the pause button, even if you're not recording the programme, and timeshift will kick in and start recording for you.

Thanks for the explanation. So it's a case of having the hard drive recording all the time, against it only recording if we press the pause button to take a telephone call etc.

... that's how I see it, I never even use the pause feature.

I just set timers for everything I want to watch.

Just to add to the confusion of terminology, starting to watch a recording while it is still active is called Chase-Playing. Wink
