A brief exchange seems to have been the only activity on this site for several days, apart from the regular "Pick of the Week". I was just wondering who else is still using their Toppy on a daily basis.

Mine is still my primary tool for viewing and managing recordings. The search functionality in MyStuff is still unrivalled for the way I find and record content, even if I record the occasional series on my youview box to manage the space on my toppy better.

How is everyone using theirs?

I use mine daily to record what I want to watch as I so frequently get interrupted if watching live. After watching the programme, it is deleted unless it is something special to me. I don't have space for a TV large enough to get any perceptable difference between SD & HD, so I am happy to stick with the Toppy until it is unusable.

We've got two in regular use, plus a spare.

We use them to record series, plus the occasional one off.

My 5810 is still in daily use, my mum has one too. I also have a spare 5810 and 5800.

With MyStuff there is nothing that comes anywhere close to the search functionality and being able to dump recordings off emulates the catch-up ability (with no 30 day timeout). Sky is getting close with the series links that return, but you don't get the accurate record and can't get the recordings of the box.

Occasionally do the reverse and code up stuff from Get iPlayer Automator to mpeg2 (using ffmpeg) then rec (using MPEG streamclip) so that can be watched on the TV.

I had Sky+ fitted a couple of years back but have just cancelled it as we weren't using it. I had a freesat box prior to that (Echostar) which I have put in but that's getting little use apart from clashes and watching other regions.

Toppy still rules!

Two 5810s, one 500MB (without MyStuff) the other 2TB (with MyStuff); I am a TV adict but I never watch live TV. Our TV is still a steam powered SD CRT, so not yet seduced by HD (or 4k). Sig out of date.

I should add that I back mine up regularly via a Windows script and Antares, so I do have a library of films I've recorded but not watched yet...

Mine is our main (and I have a working spare)) viewing/recording tool, other than the news we rarely watch live TV, everything is via the Toppy. I'm dreading the day it's no longer viable to use it. IMHO nothing even comes close to a Toppy with MS.

Mine is in daily use and is my only PVR. I almost never watch live TV having found it infinitely better to choose which programmes to watch in advance (or have MyStuff pick up stuff for me).

I am not especially bothered about the lack of HD and have little interest in catch-up. MyStuff can be a bit glitchy at times, but I think there will (understably) be little further development there.

I'll be very sad when it finally gives up. Hopefully the other offerings will have become adequate by then to cover what I now enjoy.

Every day - main (and only) machine I use for recording and watching. Although I've just bought a Roku for catch-up TV.

I've got a spare Toppy in the loft just in case!

Our only PVR is a 5800 with 1TB and MyStuff, which is in daily use - and like many others we rarely watch live TV.

Will only replace when it (and a spare) either break terminally, or there is something better. I find it amazing that no other organization seems to have managed to improve on MyStuff in all this time, considering MyStuff was written by BobD in his spare time.

Many thanks to BobD, and the excellent support given by many on this site.

I have a 5800 with a 2.5" 320GB disk for all non-HD recordings, and a Humax for HD. I have 2 more 5800s for sale, a 5810 for testing PSUs, and about 7 slightly faulty 5800s for testing and parts. I also have selection of spare PSUs.

I always use the MyStuff EPG for checking what's on, as it's much easier than the Humax.

Still got two - a 5800 and a 5810 - chugging along. The 5800 is like the apocryphal broom that has lasted 50 years and only had six new ends and three new handles. The husks of others lay strewn around my office.

I keep my original 5800 in my main system, just in case, although it gets little use. I rarely watch much TV at all these days, certainly not live, and just have the 5800 for recording the odd film. Still has its original 160GB HDD, which is mainly because I haven't bothered to change it for the 1TB disc in my other 5800, which is not in use as the USB port is dead.
