Hi. My Mum's 5800 has no sound all of a sudden. Running the latest MyStuff.

She explained over the phone that she was watching a recording and using the blue button to skip several times in a row (2.5mins per) and thinks she pressed TEXT because it skipped to the start of the recording.

Now has no sound from the Toppy on live or any recording. Volume bar displayed and moves. TV works fine with Toppy off or on another AV channel.

Turning off and back on still has no sound.

Tried to replicate on one of my 5800 and can't... any ideas welcome please.

Thanks.
Kev.

I wonder if the scart cable has been disturbed? It may pay to press both ends in just in case.

Has she tried a good old-fashioned reboot?

There have been various posts about lack of sound over the years.

Among some of the solutions were:

* The RF Output should be "PAL I" for the UK (and the TV Type set to PAL)
* Could be caused by capacitors (contact andyfras)
* Could be that the TV has been set to ignore sound from the toppy.
* Toppy volume too low (perhaps it was the TV volume control that was moving?)
* Dodgy SCART cable (and, my comment, make sure plugged into top socket at back of toppy)

If you live close by, suggest you take your toppy to your Mum's and try it there; if it works then the problem is toppy related, if it doesn't then it is TV and/or cable related
(I expect you are now going to tell me that she lives 400 miles away)

Geoff

I did the caps less then years ago, I'll get her to check the Pal setting but this shouldn't have changed mid program, same for tv ignoring sound from toppy.

TV volume works fine. Toppys works fine on displaying it.

Maybe the scart but can't see how this would happen randomly.

She is about 40mins away and yes I could take one of mine over for comparrison.

Confused

Well it seemed to cure it self. Before I fed back advice, being off (standby) overnight and back on the sound returned.

As always thanks all for the help anyway! Very Happy
