I have the current bespoke .mcl file for my EPG:

Code:
// File updated by Channel Organiser B2.1 on 23/2/2015 at 21:38
// MyStuff ignores '//' and all subsequent information, but Channel Organiser
// adds channel name and ServiceId information (latter in curly brackets) to
// allow correct operation after LCN reshuffles
// If file is manually edited such that the Channel Organiser information is wrong,
// it will think an LCN reshuffle has taken place and 'correct'
// the LCNs accordingly, thus mess up this file
// If manually editing the file, note the name must precisely match the broadcast
// name - e.g. 'BBC FOUR', not 'BBC4' or 'BBC four'
// If the Channel Organiser information is missing, it will not be able to
// correct the file in the event of an LCN re-shuffle

1   // BBC ONE West      {4161}
2   // BBC TWO           {4287}
3   // ITV               {8268}
4   // Channel 4         {8384}
5   // Channel 5         {8500}
6   // ITV2              {8325}
28   // E4                {8448}
15   // Film4             {8385}
7   // BBC THREE         {4288}
9   // BBC FOUR          {4544}
14   // More 4            {8442}
47   // 4seven            {27168}
13   // Channel 4+1       {8452}
29   // E4+1              {22336}
12   // Dave              {22272}
37   // QUEST             {14498}
120   // CBBC              {4608}
121   // CBeebies          {4672}
122   // CITV              {16032}
130   // BBC NEWS          {4352}
601   // BBC RB 1          {7168}
705   // BBC R5L           {5632}
706   // BBC R5SX          {5696}
708   // BBC Radio 4 Ex    {5824}

I understand the warnings about modifying it, but have come up with the following to remove BBC Three and move a couple round:

Code:
1   // BBC ONE West      {4161}
2   // BBC TWO           {4287}
3   // ITV               {8268}
4   // Channel 4         {8384}
5   // Channel 5         {8500}
28   // E4                {8448}
15   // Film4             {8385}
9   // BBC FOUR          {4544}
6   // ITV2              {8325}
14   // More 4            {8442}
47   // 4seven            {27168}
13   // Channel 4+1       {8452}
29   // E4+1              {22336}
33   // ITV +1            {8368}
12   // Dave              {22272}
37   // QUEST             {14498}
120   // CBBC              {4608}
121   // CBeebies          {4672}
122   // CITV              {16032}
130   // BBC NEWS          {4352}
601   // BBC RB 1          {7168}
705   // BBC R5L           {5632}
706   // BBC R5SX          {5696}
708   // BBC Radio 4 Ex    {5824}

Will this mess up ChannelOrganiser when I next run it? (I haven't for a while as you can ell I don't have a great deal of channels in there)

I assume if I replace the MCL file it will take effect from next restart?

Thanks

You can just delete the lines containing the channels that you don't want but you should really do it by using CO or TopManager/PcControl. You can do it without either of these but some editors can cause problems (I can't remember which ones).

If you have a windows pc, suggest you install TopManager and
1) Tools| install Files | PcControl
2) Reboot toppy
3) PcControl| Show Menus
4) PcControl| Channel Management
5) Select the non required channels and "Delete Channels"
6) Finalize

Hi Geoff

I'm on Linux which does run TopManager through Wine but it's not as fully functioned as through windows.

Can you re-order favourite files in the CO tap? I might be picky but I don't want to just delete channels, I want those channels I watch most on my first EPG screen, those I watch sometimes on my second, etc

I didn't use an editor to modify my .mcl file, I just did it using the information in MyInfo Channel Data.txt for the codes and channel name layout.

Thanks

Edit: also, I don't re-scan the Toppy much as most of the channels I watch don't change often and it's working well at the moment, so I don't wish to tempt fate - not with the amount of recordings on there at present!

You can use CO to reorder the files - just tell it not to scan when it starts. You'll need to read the on screen instructions to see how to promote/demote entries in the list (TM is probably easier).

Having said that, I think a Linux editor is not going to cause problems. This means that you could
1) copy your current .mcl file to the linux system
2) rename the current .mcl file (on the toppy) by appending ".bak" to the name
3) edit the file on the pc
4) copy the amended file back to the toppy
5) reboot toppy (or restart MyStuff)
[if you have an issue with the file, you can always recover your previous file preserved by step 2 above]

Note: using the editor assumes that everything in the list is correct - if not sure, you should perhaps first do a rescan in CO (make sure it is version B2 - not sure of the point release) and then use CO to change the lists.

Your signature doesn't show that you haven't got my PruneEPG tap installed. If it is not loaded then you should put it in \ProrgamFiles\Auto Start (get tap from my TM site)

Yes you can. I've done exactly that using just CO, putting my most watched 11 channels first, in the order I want them in.

Thanks all

Last night I exited MyStuff, ran CO and re-ordered and deleted BBC Three.

It all seemed to work OK, but after restarting today I had some odd timers which looked like duplicates shifted by the deleted channel - I just deleted them. I also had some thinks in my Recycle Bin which have been restored.

Also, my MyStuff EPG hasn't populated for next Sunday, although the native one is there.

Any ideas why this would be?

Thanks

Edit: Also, TF5000 Display is now not showing BBC One's name. All the others are OK for long names, but BBC One is blank. Again, any ideas welcome!

Did you retune the toppy before adjusting channel order?

My guess is that, because you are using Linux, your system is not as current as one updated from a windows pc.

Suspect you need to update your Freeview.dat file (and possibly FvTxData.tsv). Having updated these files, you will need to use CO again to apply the changes.
Note: You could use TopManager Tools| Install Files to update these files

Don't stop MyStuff before running CO because CO will detect/pause MS. As MS is "running", CO will resume/leave it to MS to adjust timers to the new line up.

Re the lack of EPG for next Sunday, this is probably down to EPG2MEI not running (you only get 7 days on Freeview and they only tend to update the future schedules at/or around midnight). You say they appear in the native EPG which implies EPG2MEI isn't collecting the data for MS.

Don't forget to install PruneEPG; without this, the EPG buffer may overflow resulting in EPG events being discarded.

Geoff

I didn't retune as I was only deleting, but you are correct on the Linux thing - I really don't update that much anymore ... but don't really want the new shopping channels. I've been running the excellent PruneEPG since the day it came out! I've updated my sig.

The EPG appears to have populated now (which is good), so it's just TF5000 display not showing BBC One's long name now (I wish I'd backed up the TF5000Display.chn).

The MyInfo log looks fine.

Don't use TF5000Display myself but the format is fairly simple; how about posting your TF5000Display.chn file?

When you did the channel reorganization, did you tell CO to update the TF500Display.chn file?
[edit] is anything in TF5000 Display not displying correct channel name after... of any help?[/edit]e.g. an up-to-date Freeview.dat file

Thanks Geoff

I looked through that thread earlier but it didn't solve my issue. I must have asked CO to update it (although I don't believe I did)!

I don't understand why it doesn't display s I just delete all the short names out of the .chn file and it picks up the long name. It may be that I've deleted the 'West' bit of 'BBC ONE West' previously and will try that later.

Edit: I've solved the issue now - Removing 'West' made no difference. I edited the .chn file to remove all white space above the '[font]' line. In fact, I removed all the stuff above and set the TAP to show 'Channel Name' and now all is good!

Thanks again.
