I replaced my PSU caps and fitted a PATA/SATA interface (many thanks to Andy Fraser). I've installed a brand new 2.5" 250GB HDD and everything apart from MyStuff is working beautifully. I'm using Firmware 5.13.65T with the patches provided by the MyStuff installation.

I've installed MyStuff using all 3 options, formatting the drive before each attempt, but the problem always returns - if I include MyStuff in the Auto Start folder the machine goes into a continuous reboot cycle. And if I run MyStuff as a separate TAP when everything else is running, I get the same problem. I've looked through the FAQs and archives, and have tried a number of things but the problem still exists.

Is there a list somewhere of what files should be in what folder to enable MyStuff to do its thing? It's wonderful when it's working - I used it for the 11 years before the refurb - so I don't want to lose the functionality it provides.

TIA
Trevor

If you've successfully used the installer, it's unlikely that anything is missing. The only thing I can think of is too many channels (including channels from multiple transmitters) causing memory corruption. By definition, memory corruption could be the cause of all sorts of random stuff, depending on what the memory getting corrupted is being used for at the time.

Could you start by posting a MyInfo log.

P.S. There's probably a list of what files you should have in one of the Appendices of the MyStuff manual Smile

But, as I said, I doubt if it's relevant. In general, if there's a file missing, MS will create an empty/dummy/default one.

Many thanks for your reply. I'm at work just now but will post the log as soon as I can - probably tomorrow. I did 2 runs of Channel Organiser to remove redundant channels, but I can't remember how many it's left me with - around 60 I think, but can't be sure.

60 is probably OK on a 5800, but would be asking for trouble on a 5810. I usually suggest people aim for 40.

Your best bet is to actually do the scan using CO, rather than just removing channels with it. That way you can specify a transmitter to be sure to only pick up channels from a single transmitter, rather than guessing at which ones to delete or taking the risk of certain channels being picked up from a random different transmitter, which can cause assorted weird issues.

Mystuff scans the disk for recordings to add to the archive, so corrupt disk structure could cause a crash during the loading phase?
Duplicate channels/mismatch with fav files? Check using Topmanager. Corrupt epg file?

To check for filesystem corruption, try running my fsCheck tap (should be in \ProgramFiles\Utilities if you used the full MyStuff installer rather than just copying the MS tap).

Please post the log in the dedicated fsCheck Reports thread.

Please post your MyInfo Log (use TopManager to retrieve?)

Also try using TopManager | Tools| Remove Bad MyStuff EPG files before starting MyStuff.

So it's looking like I just have too many channels.

Geoff - I ran fscheck straightaway - thanks for a very useful program! There were no issues - I wasn't expecting any as it's a brand new disk. And I will look at TopManager.

Julie - I did use CO to scan but didn't specify a transmitter. I'll try just selecting Emley Moor.

Thankyou both for your help.

Cheers,

Trevor

Most of your channels are coming from EM, but the ITV channels are from Belmont.

LCNs 58, 62 & 69 are just placeholder channels, so they could be removed too.

Quite possibly: 67+28 = 95, which is a lot. I would recommend getting rid of another 35-50 channels.

Unfortunately, the available memory figures don't tell us much until you've got MyStuff running, which is a bit Catch-22.

Still looping unfortunately, even after trimming the channel list.

When MyStuff is in the Auto Start folder, the Toppy reboots and MyStuff says it crashed last time it tried to load and asks if I want to enter Recovery Mode. Whether or not I enter Recovery Mode and follow the prompts, MyStuff still crashes on entry next time. MyStuff also crashes if I run it separately.

Here's my updated log, many thanks for the help so far:
