After moving house, and retuning/resetting our Toppy, Series Search no longer works. When clicking the red record button MyStuff says:

Code:
1. Set one-off timer
2. Create TextSearch
3. Create PowerSearch
Create SeriesSearch - unavailable, no series data

This is with MyStuff v6.5 (I haven't changed it) and firmware 5.13.65T. I'm pretty sure that programme data is from epg2mei

Any ideas what could cause this and/or how to fix it?

Many thanks,

Brian.

It takes 30 mins to generate the data (I'm assuming that the toppy has been off for some time while sorting out the house).

Another alternative is that EPG2MEI isn't running.

Suggest you post a current MyInfo.Log so we can see what is running.

After you have it working again, you should upgrade to 6.6 (but don't do it before it is working as it may obscure the fault).

Geoff

Actually it's been like this for 3 months, the wife reminded me about it again so it's about time I did something about it Smile

The normal programme guide is visible, so I thought that meant epg2mei is working. Timers and Text/PowerSearch work fine. It's only SeriesSearch which is missing.

There are current EPG.mei files under ProgramFiles:

Code:

# Under ProgramFiles
-rw-r--r--   1 none     none          2990601 Mar 25 06:32 EPG.mei

-rw-r--r--   1 none     none          1649096 Mar 24 22:38 MyStuff.tap

EPG2MEI.log is old - but maybe I just had logging turned on fot a bit when I first installed it.

I can't find any MyInfo.log. Where should I be looking? I have tried

Settings
Settings/MyStuff
Program Files
Program Files/Settings
Program Files/Settings/MyStuff
Program Files/Logs
Program Files/AutoStart -- EPG2MEI.log is here

Also: I upgraded to 6.6 last night before seeing your post, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference.

Our new house receives from a different transmitter (Tunbridge Wells I believe). Is it possible that they don't send series info from there?

Cheers,

Brian.

It looks like your EPG* files files are in the correct places.

You should have a MyInfo.tap in \ProgramFiles\Auto Start. When the toppy boots, this waits 2 minutes and then creates \ProgramFiles\Logs\MyInfo Log.txt (if I remember correctly).

How did you upgrade to MyStuff 6.6 - just by copying the tap or by using the full installer and accepting all options. If the former then you may not have everything you want on the toppy.

Assuming you have a windows pc, suggest you install TopManager (link in my signature) and use the Tools| Check MyStuff option.

Please say what operating system you have on the pc.

Geoff

Without a MyInfo.log we're not going to get very far.

All transmitters send series link info, but not all channels support series links.

If you're not sure which transmitter you're using, then the channels you've found from a scan are probably in a mess.

The most likely reason is that the [Sl] patch is not installed for some reason (the installer would add this if you opt to update firmware).

I never came across MyInfo.log before. After some Googling, it looks this is generated by another tap (MyInfo.tap). I've installed it now in Auto Start.

I can't find "MyInfo.log", but there is "MyInfo Log.txt" - see below.

Are the duplicate and illegal LCNs an issue, and if so what should I do about them?

Thanks... Brian.

I just copied the tap. To connect to the Toppy I use an Asus wlhdd2.5 running OpenWrt and ftpd-topfield; then I ftp to it over the wireless from my Macbook Air.

I avoid Windows as much as possible, but if it's really necessary, I can dig out an old laptop and connect it up. It seems that the MyStuff 6.6 installer hides all the bits inside "SetUp.exe"

This was all working fine before we moved though, so maybe it's just a question of getting the right tuning/channel setup.

Cheers,

Brian.

It's a wonder it's working at all.

You haven't got the MyStuff recommended firmware (so [Sl] is missing), as well as some associated taps.

You need to install MyStuff using the installer.

And you need to use Channel Organiser to sort out the 186 channels you've got.

I guessed that you had just copied the tap; this method should really only be done when you have already updated to a version and BobD puts out a corrected tap i.e. you have everything in place and only the tap needs updating.
By just installing the tap, you have missed all the other stuff that the installer puts on the disk.

So dig out that laptop one more time and do a full MyStuff upgrade (accept all options including firmware). A Juwlz says, you probably have lost the [Sl] patch - although this must be as a result of a user action!)

Also install TopManager (if not already on the laptop)

After upgrading MS, use TM to Display the MyInfo log (then copy and paste it into this thread). You can also do a TM Tools| Check MyStuff (paste the output if it shows any anomalies)

[edit]Just noticed that you have already pasted a MyInfo Log. You need to remove all duplicate channels. The easiest way to do this is using the latest version of Channel Organiser or using the TM PcControl| Channel Management option. In your case, to save rolling out the laptop each time, I suggest you use ChannelOrganiser. You NEED to use the LATEST version as installed by the MyStuff installer i.e. run the installer first before using CO (Alternatively, you could install CO using the TM Tools| Install files option, use it and then perform the ms install)

You should only ever retune using CO or the TM/PCControl interface - any other way will lead to problems unless you are extremely knowledgeable

Just in case you think you can manually delete the duplicates: DONT; you are likely to delete the wrong ones and you will have to repeat it next time you scan (the two recommended methods remove most of the duplicates by only tuning to a specific transmitter. They also remember what channels you have deleted easing future retunes.
Don't forget to remove all the Pay, Porn, Shopping and Social channels! (use the CO options to do this)
[/edit]

You are receiving duplicate channels because same mux from different transmitters

You have C52,49,42,44,41 as expected from Tunbridge Wells

You have C51, 55 from somewhere else, possibly Dover.

Not sure about Dover because your TV aerial should be vertical for the low power repeater near Tunbridge Wells, but horizontal for a Main TX such as Dover.

Channel Organiser will help by scanning only the correct frequencies.

Thank you to everyone for your help!

I used the installer, and let it install all the optional taps (apart from the MHEG one - I never use text anyway, and if I did I'd use the TV itself).

I then used Channel Organizer to rescan. At the end it said: "Unable to get Freeview.dat file. So unable to update EPG2MEI.ini file". However, /ProgramFiles/Settings does contain both Freeview.dat and FvTxData.tsv; and I also retried after uploading new versions of those files.

Any suggestions for how to sort that?

But otherwise, everything is good. And the SeriesSearch option is now available, yay Smile

Thanks again,

Brian.

Looking a lot better but you still have a "many" TV channels; ideally you want to get this nearer 50 (some say 50 for combined TV and Radio but I think that is going to extremes). Reducing the channels reduces memory usage and means that MS needs to do less work when searching for recordings (it also used to prevent the EPG buffer overflowing but now that you have my PruneEPG tap, that is not such an issue). I haven't checked your channel numbers but those in the 200-300 range are probably an easy candidate for removal.

One possible reason for these extra channels is that you said CO couldn't find Freeview.dat (this categorizes the channels allowing you to delete Shopping etc). Suggest you check whether or not either of these files is present in another ProgramFiles directory.

If you installed TopManager on the laptop, you can use the Tools| Analyze ProgramFiles command to see if there are funny or duplicate files.

You might also want to run my fsCheck tap (in \ProgramFiles\Utililities) to check that the file system has no corruptions (please post it's report the dedicated fsCheck Reports thread).

You could also try downloading the "problem" files using the TM Tools| Install Files option (perhaps even reloading CO).

Correct, CO didn't offer me any categories.

However, Freeview.dat *does* exist in /ProgramFiles/Settings/, which is where the CO documentation says they should be. I also tried uploading them straight into /ProgramFiles/ but it didn't make any difference.

Which version of CO did you run? - it should have been the one in \ProgramFiles\Utilities (just in case you had an old copy somewhere else - TM Tools| Analyze ProgramFiles would warn you about that)

Please paste the output of any the the following that exist
\ProgramFiles\Logs\FvDataErrors.txt
\ProgramFiles\Logs\FvDatErr.txt
\ProgramFiles\Logs\ChannelOrganiser Log.txt
\ProgramFiles\Logs\ChannelOrganiser History.txt
\ProgramFiles\Settings\ChannelOrganiserDeletes.txt
