*sigh* Came home from work to discover that one of the kids had "accidentally" deleted all the files on the Toppy. So far I've done a factory reset and formatted the HDD, as even Altair couldn't connect to it.

The MyStuff installer gets as far as installing the logog files and then borks. It claims I'm not connected to the net, which is bollocks, as I'm writing this on the same ancient Win XP laptop...

Anyone got any ideas how to get round this...?

It is highly unlikely that "one of the kids had "accidentally" deleted all the files on the Toppy" (unless they used the "Format Disk" option from the system manu) [edit]If they didn't use this option, it could just have been that the disk was corrupted - usually due to poor signal quality[/edit]

Looking at the log, your installation failed because the internet dropped out while it was in progress (the install had already successfully downloaded/unzipped the config files before the failure happened).

Luckily for you, I recently created a program that can be used to build an offline installer kit. This will download all the files before you start the installation. If you use this tool, please post about your "experience"

Alternatively, you could just retry the MyStuff installer.

For future reference, I can also recover old files from a trashed Toppy disk (even if it has been reformatted - not ideal but possible). This would require you sending me the disk and with postage would cost just under 15.

Having rebuilt the disk, please post the MyInfo log so that it can be checked for anything else that should be addressed. Note: you can use TopManager to aid retrieving the MyInfo log/ updating your signature plus lots of other things.

One other possibility is that your problem was caused by a failing psu.

Have your capacitors ever been replaced on this toppy? If so, how many were changed?

If no, switch it off and contact andyfras for a repair or psu swap, or, if you have the skills, a kit of bits.

Geoff

So I've just manually gone through all the steps in the Installer 1 Firmware.cfg file and hopefully (fingers crossed) have my Toppy up and running again...

Cheers,

P.S. Doing it manually is a royal pain in the arse... Wink

According to son, a dialog appeared informing him about deleting everything, so he pressed cancel. I'm thinking that he somehow got into the Toppy setup menu and hit the wrong thing, as the default skin is nasty...

Cheers,

One other possibility is that your problem was caused by a failing psu.

Have your capacitors ever been replaced on this toppy? If so, how many were changed?

Yes, everything was changed a while back...

That dialog can also appear if the disk is corrupted.

You should really run the full installer (or my standalone version) as it puts lots of other utilities on the toppy.
Note: There is no need to do it by hand - mMy standalone version works just like the online installer when you run the kit it has built

You haven't said anything about the capacitors! Don't leave it too long as you might damage an important component.

[edit]Suggest you also measure the signal quality/strength and post the results. Use TopManager PcControl| Measure Signal and copy/paste into this thread[/edit]

Interesting....I have just found my Toppy in an unwell state this week. All the Toppy programs in Autostart etc are gone.

The recorded TV files still seem to be there.

When I tried the MyStuff install to put the apps back I got the same problem, so I think its the installer that now has a problem. I will try the offline installer.

Cheers,

Or (more likely) you have a disk corruption (perhaps to that section of the FAT) which means that the Toppy can't access /ProgramFiles

Sounds as though your disk is corrupted so attempting to reinstall MyStuff is likely to cause more issues!

Is everything in ProgramFiles gone (using TopManager Connection| Browse) or is it just stuff in \ProgramFiles\ Auto Start ?

If you have a \ProgramFiles\Utilities folder, try running the fsCheck.tap that is (hopefully) in it - please post the log in the fsCheck Reports thread.

Probably a red herring but I'm wondering if that URL is going to work. Just looking at wget.exe a --no-check-certificate is required to get around google's https redirect and then it tries to write to an illegal filename (dat_logos.zip@attachauth=ANoY7crJgg[...big snip...]K7w==&attredirects=0') unless the experimental --content-disposition option is used. So, to only download newer-than-local copies you'd use:
Code:
wget --no-check-certificate --content-disposition -N https://sites.google.com/site/toppylogos/home/dat_logos.zip

However, if the installer script is working for anyone with the http URL then I'm nicely off track. Wink

If I copy / paste the url
Quote:
http://sites.google.com/site/toppylogos/home/dat_logos.zip
into my browser (Firefox and Chrome) it works fine, and allows me to download the zip file

It worked when I did that, but not when run via the installer...

I'm not in a position to run the online installer, but I did try Geoff's offline installer, which worked perfectly, among the files it downloaded is logos.dat from the same url

Luckily for you, I recently created a program that can be used to build an offline installer kit. This will download all the files before you start the installation. If you use this tool, please post about your "experience"

I tried downloading this tool and followed the instructions to create a zip file.

However, the following lines are found at the end of Build Offline MyStuff Installer.log
    *** Missing file: fsCheck.tap
    *** Missing file: logo.dat
    *** Missing file: Patched_FSG.tap
    *** Missing file: PruneEPG.tap
    *** Missing file: smlogo.dat

The reason I tried this tool was because online setup using MyStuff66Installer aborts when logos are downloaded. I get the error message
Downloading and installing logo files:
Error: Failed to access internet with error report "wininet error # 12039 : (Unknown wininet error # 12039)" - check you internet connection and firewall settings

Any ideas on how to download and add the missing files?
