Any F1 fans out there? I want to set a series but I don't want the practice sessions. When I have tried to exclude them from the Series search screen then I end up missing recordings I want (qualifying and/or the race) from the next race. I don't think it is helped by the race sometimes being live, followed by highlights, or just highlights.

I can of course just record the lot but I'd rather be smarter than that.

If you search the forum, you'll find lots of search suggestions (specifically for F1).

To some extent, you can do it by being careful about which channels you include (just BBC1 and BBC2, unless you want to include the Red Button post-race chat, for instance), what search terms you use, and what you exclude.

You can also just set a generic search, and then exclude the highlight repeat search groups (which should all have the same Series CRID).

A search reveals if of some help but I never used to have this problem. Once I excluded the Practice from the Series search then that, if I recall correctly, was obeyed for the season.

This weekend's race has all the same Series CRID and each episode, being Practice live (on 2), Qualifying live, Qualifying highlights, Race Live and Race Highlights which have different Episode CRIDS.

My Series search shows:
Formula 1 Qualifying - expands to show tomorrows live practice on 2
Formula 1 Practice 1 - expands to show Qualifying and Race Live and Highlights (4 entries)

The whole thing seems pretty haphazard (on the Beebs behalf) and I'm fairly confident that if I try to exclude the actual Practices then it will mess me up for the next race.

If I delete the practices from the Timers how does that affect future searches?

I wonder if you might be better off using a text search and tweaking the search to be "Contains Formula 1". That way you should get all the programmes in the timer list and you can selectively exclude any you don't want.

Or a Text Search that includes the condition "Does Not Contain Practise"?

BTW you can selectively exclude any timers you do not want from those generated by a Series or Power Search too.

When I've selectively excluded the Practices from the timers it has affected the Qualifying and Race from the next event and that is the crux of my problem.

I've decided to leave it with recording the practices and then just delete the recordings as it is just easier to keep on top of what is going on rather than generate complex Power or Text searches.

I would probably enter just PRACTI to be on the safe side. You also have to be aware that sometimes they put FORMULA 1, sometime F1 and sometimes FORMULA ONE.
