In Need of Help.
I?ve had a TF5810 for many years in fact I?ve two. I recently bought a new LG 42LB595V-ZM Smart Television.
I put the aerial feed into the Toppy I connected the Toppy to the TV with a HDMI cable and everything is working ok.
The problem, if I leave the Toppy recording and turn the television off, when I turn the television back on with the Toppy still recording the TV doesn?t find the Toppy.
I have to go back to the Digital TV on the television to be able to watch a show.
To do this I?ve put one aerial into the Topfield Box and a separate one into the TV (I have two separate aerials).
But if I turn the Toppy off (and I know I?m not supposed to) as its recording then turn it back on the TV finds to Toppy.
Is it because I?m using just the HDMI cable to take the signal to the TV or should I put a lead from the other side of the aerial impute to the TV but the TV only has one aerial impute?
If I could use two aerials (without using a splitter) so I can record two programs on the Toppy and watch a third on the TV via the second aerial I would love it but as it is its not very good. The way it is I?m not sure what the Toppy is doing/recording when I can?t connect it to the TV.
This is my quest for help, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Take care,
Derek

Sounds like a problem with HDMI-handshaking. Have you tried switching the TV to a different input and then back to the one the Toppy is connected to? And / or putting the Toppy into stand-by then turning it on again? I assume you mean by turning the Toppy off while recording that you are powering it off?

Thank you for the quick response,
I?m guessing by ?Handshaking? you mean a problem with the HDMI cable/slot/Toppy not communicating with the TV or visa versa.
Yes the only way I could see what was happening and get the picture back on was to ?Power it Off? buy pulling the plug and yes I know it?s wrong.
As soon as I put the plug back in it starts up verifies the folders then works perfectly.
It seems the problem is only when I turn the TV off.
But I will try your suggestion as there are a few HDMI slots on the LG Television I?ll try another slot. As well as that I?ll try another HDMI lead as well just in case.
I?ll post back with how I get on.
Thanks again,
Derek

Managed to change the cable and the slot but I will have to wait until tomorrow to test it.
After 51 years of marriage I know how far to go.
If I mess about any more tonight it may cost me my marriage (Only joking), but I will post back tomorrow morning when I?ll be able to tell/test if the changes have worked.
Just to satisfy my curiosity, with the HDMI lead from the Toppy: am I correct in thinking I don?t need the aerial/cable from the Toppy output to the TV as the TV picks the signal up from the Toppy via the HDMI cable?
PS I?ve already been told off for writing Buy instead of by and Visa instead of Vice but I think I?ve got away with it.
Thanks again,
Derek

The tv only picks up what the toppy is showing via the hdmi cable when the toppy is switched on.
So you still need an aerial cable to the tv.

While changing to a different HDMI input on the TV is a good thing to try (as is trying a different HDMI lead) that is not what I meant. I was suggesting leaving the physical connections alone but switch the TV to another HDMI input and then back again to force HDMI to renegotiate the handshaking it does to get the source and the TV to talk to each other.

@ccs I assumed the OP was wanting to watching live or recorded TV from the Toppy while it was recording.

Hi
After changing the HDMI lead and the slot on the TV last night I?ve tried it out this morning and your suggestion seems to have worked.
I can understand ?leaving the physical connections alone but switch the TV to another HDMI input and then back again to force HDMI to renegotiate the handshaking? but as I really don?t use the rest of the HDMI slots on the TV I?m more than satisfied with how it is now.
That is unless it fails again, the good thing: I now know what to try if it fails again so I thank you for that.
I?ll keep this post open for a few days just in case but I will cancel it at the end of the week when I?m sure its ok..
Thank you so much for your help, it was getting a little over my head. .
Take care,
Derek

We need a laugh now and then, I didn?t expect that reply.
The sad thing, now I?ll have to watch the "Clangers" instead of showing off.
Take care,
Derek

Just a thought, my computer crashed and I lost all me email contacts.
If anyone got Andy Frazer's email address I could do with some service work done to one or two of my Toppys.

Feeling quite proud I've removed it.
Many thanks
Derek

Thanks again, at 75 I guess I?m a little too trusting.
The reason I wanted to contact him I think I there are ?Dry Joints? on the aerial sockets on two of the three boxes I have.
I have to fiddle with them to get a signal.
I?ll now have a go at removing my address, if I come unstuck I may be asking for more help.
Thanks again,
Derek
